Congratulations to Mrs. Schneider!
We have had a TERRIFIC week CELEBRATING Mrs. Schneider. English Landing is proud to have the 2018-2019 Park Hill Teacher of the Year on our Team. During Mrs. Schneider's interview she explained that being nominated for this award was like receiving a gold star as a student on an assignment. Well, Mrs Schneider has definitely earned this GOLD star for her daily work with our English Landing students, staff, and families.

Thinking about the 2019-2020 School Year?
Kindergarten 2019-2020 Dates to Know

Children who turn five on or before July 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year.

Take Your Child to Work Day on April 25, 2019
Dear English Landing Parent(s),
As families begin to make plans for Take Your Child to Work Day (April 25, 2019), I want to make sure you have accurate information regarding how student attendance will be documented on this day.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education language regarding daily student attendance states: “Students must be in attendance in an instructional capacity under the direct supervision of a certificated employee of the district to be counted for attendance purposes.” Therefore, if students are absent, for part or all of the day, on Take Your Child to Work Day (Thursday, April 25th), they will be counted as absent for the time they are not in school.
In Park Hill at the elementary level, we do not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences. Therefore, when a student is absent, it is simply counted as an absence. At English Landing Elementary School, we do not recognize perfect (100%) attendance. We strive for student attendance to be at or above 95%.
I encourage you to make the decision that best meets the needs of your child/family when determining if your child will participate in Take Your Child to Work Day (April 25, 2019). Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding attendance procedures for Take Your Child to Work Day (April 25, 2019).
Sincerely,
Dr. Kerry Roe
Principal

Celebrating Birthdays at English Landing!
Celebrating Student Birthdays: (Park Hill Parent/Student Handbook pages 37-38):
We are happy to celebrate student birthdays and half birthdays (if your child has a summer birthday) at English Landing! To protect the health and safety of our students, families may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates. In order to address any known allergy concerns, a label listing ingredients should be affixed to the package. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased.
At English Landing we need your HELP! Many birthday treats arrive at the beginning of the school day which provides us time to review the class list regarding food allergies or food intolerances, however, many other birthday treats arrive during lunch and often right at the same time the treat needs to be distributed to students. PLEASE plan on arriving earlier for lunch (at least 15 minutes) to give us time to check the pre-packaged treat ingredients with the students in the classroom who have food allergies or food intolerances. Our school nurse, Mrs. Kimbrel, and office staff, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Wood, or Mrs. Steczak, will help with this process so when the lunchroom staff teachers distribute the treat in the cafeteria, additional steps have been taken to ensure we are protecting the health and safety of our eagles.
