Assignments for Week of May 18 - May 22
Activity 1:
Decomposing Numbers: Shake and Spill Game
This week we're going to continue to practice decomposing numbers 3-9 (breaking a number into two smaller parts) by playing a game called "Shake and Spill". Click the link below to watch Mrs. Garvey's demonstration on how to play the game. Remember that you will need to record all the ways that you can decompose the numbers. You can do this with number sentences to show each part and how many all together. For example, 5 can be decomposed as:
0 + 5 = 5, 1 + 4 = 5, 2 + 3 = 5, 3 + 2 =5, 4 + 1 = 5, 5 + 0 = 5.
The bigger the number, the more ways you can decompose it! Be sure your child's name is on their competed work and send documentation to their teacher, either electronically or an emailed photo. Have fun shaking and spilling!
Activity 2:
American Symbols & End Punctuation
Below you will find a patriotic song. Read and sing the song with your family. Find the ending punctuation in the lyrics of the song; period (.), questions mark (?), and exclamation point (!). Tell your adult what ending punctuation you see and name them or if you have printed the song out, circle the ending punctuation and send a picture to your teacher.
