Classical Conversations Woodinville

Week #5 / October 17th, 2016

I hope each of you enjoyed our week off! We will continue this week meeting at 9:10 for Opening Time.

Please note our new Picture Day date, and our "plan" for inclement weather this Monday.

Kang Family's Last Day

It has been a blessing to have the Kang family in our community this past year and a half. We wish them the best at their new CC in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We'll say a prayer of blessing over them Monday morning in Opening Time. You will be greatly missed, Susan, Isaac & Jonah!

Picture Day - POSTPONED!

Picture day has been moved to Monday, October 24th. This is for all students and all classes (Foundations, Essentials & Challenge). Even if you do not plan to order pictures, please plan to participate in picture day as we will be taking class pictures, and hoping to put individual student pictures in addition to class photos in our yearbook. Our very own Dawn Taylor will be taking photographs! Click here to view the order form.

Potential Storm

I'm sure this finds you all cozy in your homes, planning for potential power outages, wondering if we'll have CC on Monday or not...

Here is an excerpt from our CC Handbook regarding inclement weather:

"In the case of inclement weather, we will usually base our decision on the Northshore School District (

  • Schools closed: CC – cancelled
  • One-hour delay: CC – one-hour delay all classes
  • Two-hour delay: Challenge and Essentials only, No Foundations

We do not want to cancel our classes if it is not needed. At the same time, we want our families safe and off the roads if dangerous. In addition, if we are notified that the conditions at our host church are unsafe we may differ from the schools. Please be sure to check your email for updates during inclement weather."

We will also base our decision upon the status of our host church's power. I will send out an email Monday morning by 7:30am (or earlier) advising the status of Woodinville CC classes. Please check your email before coming to CC on Monday! If you have any questions on Monday morning, text me at 206-369-3114. And please, whether or not CC holds classes or not, always use your best judgement upon whether or not to venture out.

End of Year Celebration

Jill and I are hoping that we can sing the Ephesians 6 song at our end-of-year celebration in the Spring. It might be helpful to purchase this song (for .99) so you can sing it at home: click here.

Children's Hospital Crayons

Thank you for your wonderful and generous response to our community’s collection of boxes of crayons for Seattle Children’s Hospital. It will be our great joy to deliver 189 boxes of crayons to Children’s Hospital from our CC Community.

For those who like to know such things, last year we collected 116 of crayons, so that is an increase of 73 boxes of crayons this year.

Thank you for your generosity.

Seattle Art Museum (SAM) Collection: Artistic Elements

Tour & Art Workshop (two-hour program)

($10 per student if we have 20 students in each group--cost will be adjusted based on how many students attend--Parent/Chaperones attend for free)

Tour : Students learn about the elements of art—line, shape, color, and texture—while exploring art from around the world in SAM’s collection. Students discover how artists across time, place, and cultures use these elements to communicate with the viewer.

Art Workshop : Get creative! Students experiment and explore together, designing a mixed-media sculpture using the elements of art as a source of inspiration.

Date: Wednesday, November 9, 2016

Time: 10:20 A.M. to 12:20 P.M. (Bring a sack lunch for afterwards if you'd like!)

Location: Seattle Art Museum

*Meet at the Hammering Man entrance* See attached map

We will be going to the Seattle Art Museum this fall in two groups--Foundations and Challenge, arriving at the Museum at 10 a.m. There will be a sign up sheet in the lunch room on the piano. Deadline to register is October 24th. The cost should be around $10 but may be less if we have more than 20 students per group. Parents and grandparents are free (since they are Chaperones).

Payment is due October 31st.

Please indicate on the sign up sheet how many will attend in each group. There is a limit of 35 students per group.

Also indicate which group you will be a Chaperone in.

(We may have to move Chaperones around if we don't have enough in one group.)

The Nutcracker

Like last year, we have two options for Nutcracker field trips this Christmas. Judith Wong made a comparison chart of the Nutcracker field trip options to hopefully make it easy for comparison. Email Mary Ann or Judith with any questions and to express interest. We would like to have your numbers by late September, payment due in October. The PNB Nutcracker requires we have 15 students (plus chaperones) in order to make a field trip group. I need to know if we will have enough students for the group to make. IBT has no minimum group requirement. If the PNB trip does not make, you can join the IBT field trip. RSVP by September 26th for the PNB Ballet.

Prayer Corner

Please pray for...

  • Kristy Bartlett's mother-in-law, Verna. She is having a second breast cancer lumpectomy on October 17th.
  • The Kang family as they are getting ready to move across country with 2 small children and a new baby!
  • The good health of all of our families. Praise God, almost everyone was well last week!
  • Email me your prayer requests!

I pray the Lord blesses you all with peace, safety, and good health,
