What Flat Earthers are trying to convey...
Furthermore, it accompanies Sargent to the many flat Earth assemblies seen on the documentary. Numerous scientific professionals are interviewed, as well as astronaut Scott Kelly. For their case on the conspiracy on the flat Earth, and to debate their scientific views. Thus helping to form the overall message of the documentary.
The documentary is placed in the present day United States, which is where most the flat Earth conspiracy theorists live. And how the recent increase in flat Earth believers has become a topic of scientific discussion. The intended audience of this documentary is the general public, scientists, and fellow flat-Earthers.
Beyond The Curve was made to give viewers the insight of what the daily life of a flat earther looks like. Also for both flat Earthers and Scientists to give their takes on the flat Earth theory. The point of view is from both scientists and flat Earthers. Who both state their opinions and research on the topic. The documentary , directed by Danial J. Clark, approaches the debate with a scientific point of view.
I would consider the documentary a reliable source, but not for scientific reasons. The documentary was mainly made to show the lifestyle of a typical flat Earther, and compare them to the rest of society. As shown in the film, the flat Earthers are constantly struggling to find evidence to prove their claim that the Earth is flat. While the scientists easily debunk that the earth is round in multiple ways.
Analysis of 1st critical article.
In this article, it is shown that not much evidence was used to support the flat Earthers. All they did was talk about the earth being flat. But only try to debunk the Globe theory by conducting an experiment with a $20,000 gyroscope, which ironically proved they were wrong. No other experiments were conducted on the show that could have helped the case of the flat Earthers.
The article is based off the documentary, Behind the Curve, and it is explaining how the flat Earthers did not display enough evidence. Showing their lack of intelligence for the subject many times throughout the film. The audience this article was intended for were viewers who also disagreed with how the documentary was laid out. How the perspective was aimed more at the "incompetent" flat Earthers then ones with more expertise. The purpose of the article was to bring light on the problems that the flat Earthers convey throughout the show. The point of view is from a writer and critic who wrote the article in the first place.
The main argument stated in the article is that the documentary, Behind The Curve, is that the flat Earthers did not answer any questions given to them. Thus making them seem less intelligent then they might actually be. This is very important to know because this documentary is being seen by millions of people and can thus change how flat Earthers are thought as.
Overall, the article gives an overall very good overview of the faults that the documentary has. Thus giving readers more information so they can make their final decision about the topic. This is important because some people change their outlooks on topics such as if the earth is flat or not.
Analysis of 2nd critical article.
The historical context of this article it was created in 2018 to discuss the film in general and its shortcomings. Which give us a lot of information that might have evaded us in the first place. Audience wise, the documentary is directed towards viewers who want to know more about the debate. And also the shortcomings of the film. The purpose of the article is to inform readers about the film in general and it's shortcomings. The point of view is from Kyle Kohner, who is the creator of the article.
Of the arguments displayed in the article, the most important one about Behind The Curve is the lack of professional scientists . These are the people who support the earth being round. But to counter that, the documentary was made to focus primarily on one flat Earther who states his case. But every opinion has a disagreement, so it is important that both sides are shown equally.
'
In closing, the article showed the downside of focusing on just one party. Showing how it is important to clearly state how the flat Earthers have worthy contenders. Such as the professional scientists and even astronauts. The article did a good job criticizing and explaining the documentary in general.
Final Personal Review
Post to watching the film, I can see that the flat Earthers are a tightly knit group. I liked the documentary a lot and it keeps my point that flat Earthers are not the most intelligent people. They still don't accept science and it will always be that way. Which was what I was expecting in the first place after seeing their background history. Unfortunately, due to their lack of intelligence and scientific reasoning as show in the film. I still think flat Earthers are in inarticulate in the subject.
The point in the film that spoke to me was when Mark Sargent pointed out that he believed in various other conspiracies that were obviously untrue. His inability to comparand what is right from wrong is very bad. And after watching this documentary, many people including me will judge the whole flat Earth society just off Sargent himself.
All-in-all, the documentary was a reliable source that showed both side of whether the Earth is flat or not. We got to see the fascinating life is Mark Sargent, Nasa astronaut Scott Kelly gave his take, and we got to see the impact flat Earthers have on society as a whole. From flat Earth clocks to twenty thousand dollar lasers. Flat Earthers really are a unique group of human beings.
