Open Announcements

September 12, 2021

Dear Open High Family,

It's so exciting to have Open filled with students once again! Thanks to everybody for following new routines and maintaining a positive attitude as we try to keep everyone safe. Family groups have gotten to know each other, collaborate, and problem solve through a wide variety of activities. And our new schedule of classes began on Friday. Big thanks to our small team at Open for working hard to make our reopening a success.

As a reminder, stay home if you are sick and get tested. COVID-19 symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure. If there is a positive case, please contact us immediately so contact tracing can begin. Also, if your student is tardy or has an early dismissal, please send an email or call Ryan Eldridge (reldridg@rvaschools.net/804.780.4661). Parents are asked to remain outside the building, and we will send students out upon your arrival. If you have received messages about your student being absent from RTC, please ignore. We are working on fixing this error.

As students know, we have assigned seating in all classes and Families to facilitate contact tracing. We also have QR codes located on seating in hallways and outdoors for this purpose.

We ask students to scan these with their phones to indicate where they are on campus and when. We also revisited our lunch strategy, and students will now find QR codes on every classroom door for eating lunch with friends while properly distanced. This means they can eat in any classroom as long as the number of students is limited to approximately 10 students with 6 foot distancing.

With the beautiful weather, outdoor seating was well-used on Friday, and students are already finding their way to other lunch spots in the VCU/Oregon Hill area. We remind students that they should remained masked throughout the school day, and no one should ever travel alone. Please include others for both safety and friendship.

If students have not already done so, they should complete the following forms:

All new students should also join our school-wide Google Classroom here. See below for other ways to stay connected.

This week we look forward to getting back into the groove of school. We will also hold our monthly PTSA Meeting on Tuesday, September 14 at 6 pm at the link below. And on Thursday, September 16, all RPS schools and offices will be closed in recognition of Yom Kippur.

Thank you again for your trust, your flexibility, and your resilience. We're all in this together!

In joyful service,

Clary Carleton
