Pinehill School Newsletter
Wednesday 21st September 2022
Message from our Principal
Kia ora tatou, Mālō e lele, Ann yeong haseyo, Ni hao, Dzień dobry
I start this newsletter talking about the PINEHILL WAY. The Pinehill Way is our values, our expectations, the way we treat ourselves and how we treat each other at Pinehill School.
The Pinehill Way is for everyone. Not just our students and staff but also our parents.
I would like to focus on the Pinehill Way value of RESPONSIBILITY and remind drivers what this means at our LAYBY area. I have been very saddened, alongside many of our parents and staff with the unsafe parent driving and parking behaviour in our layby area.
Please note:
NO PARKING in the layby. Layby is a drop off and pick up area only.
Your car can be in Layby for a maximum of 2 minutes while you drop and pick up your children. If you need longer than this, please park in a side street and walk into school grounds.
I will no longer be giving warnings on parked cars — number plates will be sent straight to Auckland Transport enforcement team.
Drive into the layby area in the correct direction to avoid oncoming traffic.
We need everyone to take responsibility and follow the Layby procedures so that our children arrive in the gates SAFELY.
We are all responsible for our children's safety.
We look forward to seeing responsible, safe driving and parking etiquette in our Layby area, at drop off and pick up, from this afternoon onwards.
CELEBRATIONS
As we near the last couple of weeks of the term we are finishing with a BANG! It has been a truly magnificent week celebrating all things Pinehill.
On Monday our Kapa Haka performed a beautiful set as part of our opening to our Pinehill School Art Exhibition. This is the first Art Exhibition we have been able to go ahead with since 2019 and Covid disruptions. The Art Exhibition is held every two years to celebrate the talents and efforts of our students and staff in the area of visual arts.
Teachers have been planning, organising, preparing and timetabling in teaching towards their classes' piece of artwork, all year. The masterpieces displayed are all unique and quite breathtaking. Like any subject area, some of our students thrived in creating their piece of art, and some (like me) showed great resilience and perseverance in reworking their piece, modifying and in some cases making big changes for the final outcome.
This year we have been wowed yet again with an incredibly colourful display of art, covering a range of media. We hope your children enjoyed the opportunity to share their art with you during the opening night. It is not too late to come along and see our exhibition. It will be open after school today from 3-4pm in the school hall. Thank you to all of our teachers for their efforts. A special mention and thank you to the art team Marg Milne, Karen Blau, Ricarda Petzer, Wendy Chatterton and Christine Johnston who have supported with the planning and co-ordination of the exhibition to ensure the success of this event as well as the vision and execution of the final set up in the hall from Marg Milne and Karen Blau resulting in a spectacular display.
25TH JUBILEE
During term 1 this year, Pinehill School turned 25 ! We were able to have a small onsite ceremony in red light conditions to mark this special occasion. This week it has been wonderful to open our celebrations again with light restrictions lifted, to foundation and past staff, students, whanau and community members.
Last night, our alumni art exhibition and open hour celebration attracted over 150 people, most being foundation staff and past students and staff. The Art Exhibition has been an event at Pinehill School since 2003. It was wonderful for our alumni to experience this again, share their special memories, reminisce and take a tour through the school with our wonderful house leaders.
We have two more 25th Silver Jubilee events to come which we are excited about. Our playground opening and blessing is tomorrow and our 25th Silver Jubilee assembly is on Friday and open to all to attend.

The Resilience Project invites you to a session introducing our programme to your Parents & Carers.
We are grateful to work with schools and communities to support youth mental health and wellbeing. Through the school curriculum, we share the benefits of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness, and easy ways our children can practise these in everyday life.
There will be an overview of the programme, how it works in schools and some ideas of how to support that work at home. We will also look at data collected from New Zealand students with regards to device use and the importance of sleep for learning and development.
We share evidence based, positive, practical, mental health strategies with the whole school community – teachers, students, parents and carers – to support the implementation of wellbeing curriculum to build resilience, happiness, and drive sustainable behaviour change.
