George Washington

Bio and Early Life
George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Mount Vernon, Virginia. He died on December 14, 1799 at 67 years old in Mount Vernon, Virginia. His father was named Agustine Washington and his mother's name was Mary Ball. Agustine had another wife before Mary. Her name was Jane Butler. George had one older half brother named Lawrence Washington. Lawrence served as a surrogate father after the death of his father. Lawrence died in 1754. George married a rich widow named Martha Curtis on January 6th, 1759.
George had little formal education, except tutors. 7-15 he attended school periodically near ferry farm. He stopped school to start practicing tobacco growing, animal husbandry, and elementary surveying. All of those things helped him, later in life. He never attended a university. He had a natural talent for draftsmanship and practice math. He also had affection for reading and fine arts.
Role played in the Revolution
George represented the Americans as the commander in chief, and general of the Continental Army . In June 1775, congress ordered George Washington to take command of the Continental Army. He had military strategy's that sometimes lead him and his army to victory. He was a part of the French and Indian War in 1754-1763. On Christmas eve in 1776 George launched a successful surprise attack at Trenton, New Jersey. Then George launched another successful surprise attack at Princeton on January 3, 1777.
Important Accomplishments
George Washington made peace with French, therefore no more wars with French were established. His strong leadership, presence, and fortitude held the American military together long enough to secure victory at York Town & independence for his new nation. On April 30, 1789 he was elected president of the Unites States, and served 2 terms (1789-1797). U.S schools and towns, as well as the nation's capital city, are named after him. His face is on Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
