Week at Windsor 3.1.20

Looking back and ahead at Windsor news and happenings...

Dear Windsor Families,

Happy March 1st! Here is this weekend's message.

As a reminder, progress reports will be emailed home (similar to 1st trimester) to parents/guardians this Friday, March 6th.

Students voted for a Famous Person Wildcat Way dress up day this Friday, March 6th!

On Friday, you received this letter from Dr. Bein regarding our district's efforts to review the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) update on its response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation and be proactive in our planning. You also received recommended practices to keep everyone healthy and safe. One recommendation we want to reiterate is the importance of leaving detailed symptoms on either our online absence notification or hotline 847-398-4297. As a staff and school, we will also continue to review our practices and reinforce healthy and safe habits with students. We will keep everyone informed of these efforts to ensure we are all partnering together. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with questions or concerns.

We are looking forward to a great week ahead.

Warmest regards,

Piper Boston, Principal @PrincipalBoston

Lindsay Anastacio, Assistant Principal @lindzana

ISA and IAR at Windsor

ISA

Similar to previous years, our fifth graders will be participating in the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) this week on Tuesday 3/3 and Wednesday 3/4.

IAR

All third through fifth grade students will participate in the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) assessment. This assessment is built to evaluate students on the Illinois Learning Standards. All students in these grade levels are tested in English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Here are the testing dates. We will share grade level testing windows in the upcoming week.

  • Wednesday 3/11
  • Thursday 3/12
  • Monday 3/16
  • Tuesday 3/17-NO SCHOOL (Election Day)
  • Wednesday 3/18
  • Thursday 3/19

In the meantime, students will need headphones for these assessments. While most students already have headphones at school, some may still need to bring them in, if they never brought a pair to school or if they are not working properly.

SOCCER COLLECTION FOR KIDS IN NEED!

We are collecting new and used soccer equipment for kids participating in ESCO's community outreach soccer programs. The youth in these programs do not have the means to play organized soccer let alone afford the necessary equipment.

ITEMS NEEDED: Soccer equipment for kids in grades 2-5 (soccer cleats, shin guards, and size 4 soccer balls). ESCO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Arlington Heights. For more information about ESCO visit www.elitesoccercommunity.org or follow on Facebook and Instagram @SupportESCO.

Mr. Gember jgember@sd25.org is helping to organize this effort and can answer any questions!

Social Invitations, etc. at School

Windsor has traditionally not allowed students to bring in and distribute social invitations/flyers here at school. There are several reasons of which some of the major ones include:

  • Not wanting any children to be/feel excluded,
  • Being respectful of school/instructional time,
  • Not wanting teachers/Windsor to be responsible for the promotion of personal/non-school related information,
  • Not wanting to distract any of our children from their learning.

When families join the Windsor PTA they gain access to our our school directory spot with other families who have elected to share their contact information. Here is a link with more information. If coordinating any kind of social activity, please use the PTA directory spot and plan communication outside of our school campus/hours.

Extraordinary Staff Recognition

We are proud of the Windsor team, as they are all committed and dedicated to their work here at school. During Valentine's Day week, the PTA helped to organize positive messages and notes for our different teachers. While unexpected, they always appreciate positive feedback from you and our students.

If there is a staff member you feel deserves some extraordinary recognition for something he or she has done for our school to make a difference for others, please fill out this form to have this staff member more formally recognized for her or his extraordinary accomplishment.
