DestinationCollege2021
Crosby Scholars Junior Newsletter, March 2020
Our Mission
We will assist public middle and high school students in Forsyth County in preparing themselves for successful college enrollment.
Our Vision
We seek to ensure that every public school student in Forsyth County has the opportunity to attend college.
This newsletter, DestinationCollege2021, is published monthly beginning in spring of your junior year to keep you informed of activities, deadlines, and program opportunities. It is your responsibility to meet deadlines and fulfill program requirements. Reading the newsletter and logging in to your Crosby Scholars Student Portal regularly will keep you apprised of the latest program information.
It's Time to THINK LIKE A SENIOR!
Attending ONE Think Like a Senior (TLS) session or webinar is the final requirement of the Junior Program!
You will learn about Senior Program requirements and how the Program supports you throughout the college admission and financial aid processes, including your enrollment decision.
During this session and in subsequent webinars, we will discuss the Crosby Scholars Senior Advisor Program in depth so that you can make an informed decision when selecting a Senior Advisor.
Registration is required via the Crosby Scholars Student Portal, and each session of Think Like a Senior is limited to 150 participants.
Given the significant role they play in the college journey, parents are strongly encouraged to accompany their student; however, parents cannot attend the session on a student’s behalf.
Select YOUR Senior Advisor and Order Your FREE Class of 2021 T-Shirt!
Seniors are required to complete a senior advisor form AFTER they attend a Think Like a Senior (TLS) Presentation. If you have any questions about the Senior Advisor Program, watch the following informational webinar. WEBINAR RECORDING LINK
During the senior year, scholars meet individually with a Senior Advisor, who can then address specific needs of students as they arise.
Following each meeting, the Senior Advisor submits online conference notes to the Crosby Scholars Office. This process allows Crosby staff to monitor each scholar's progress. The Senior Advisor is thus the lead member of a team helping each scholar to navigate the college admission process.
Senior advisors assist you with the following:
- confirm target list of colleges
- discuss Early Action/Early Decision application plans
- review SAT/ACT results and discuss additional testing
- review admission/scholarship essays
- navigate the financial aid process, including identifying scholarship opportunities
- monitor completion of Senior Program requirements
- meeting deadlines and communicating with colleges as necessary
The Senior Advisor form is set up as a registration in the Crosby Scholars Student Portal. Log in, and submit this registration by March 28. If you need to make a change to this form, cancel your registration and re-register. As of March 29, no changes will be allowed – no exceptions! You will order your FREE Class of 2021 T-Shirt through this same registration link.
Before you submit this senior advisor form, you must discuss your Senior Advisor decision with your parent/guardian and receive his/her approval.
