A Message from your Principal, Katie Johnson

I'd like to take this opportunity to share some information related to our upcoming election. On August 3rd, our Cherry Creek Schools Board of Education approved moving forward with mill levy override (Measure 4A) and bond (Measure 4B). The questions will appear on the November 3rd general election ballot for voters in the Cherry Creek School District.

Measure 4A would raise $35 million in operating funds to keep great classroom teachers, maintain small class sizes, provide registered nurses and mental health professionals in every school, and ensure all students have the technology tools they need to succeed.

Measure 4B would provide $150 million in bond funds for school safety and security upgrades, a stand-alone mental health facility to support students, essential technology improvements districtwide, innovation improvements at every high school in the district, school-based maintenance projects, a possible new school in the east side of the district and an expansion of the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus.

I encourage you to take a moment to educate yourself on 4A and 4B by visiting

Much Appreciation,

Katie Johnson

Meet our Kindergarten Team

Angela Lang

My name is Angela Lang and I am one of the Kindergarten teachers. This is my twenty-ninth year of teaching at Cottonwood Creek. I grew up in Oklahoma and was hired at Cottonwood right after graduating from Oklahoma State University. I feel so blessed to be a part of the Cottonwood Creek family. I can attest that it really is true… everything I need to know I learned in Kindergarten! 😊 When I am not at school you can find me trying to keep up with my teenagers, cuddling with my dogs or relaxing in Winter Park (and many other locations as soon as I can travel again!).

Megan Schultz

My name is Megan Schultz, and this is my 19th year of teaching. This is my third year of teaching kindergarten, and it is my fifth year at Cottonwood. I have a three-year old daughter named Catherine, and a Westie named Bailey. I am a second-degree blackbelt in Taekwondo, which is where I met my husband. I have taught kindergarten through seventh grade, and I am so happy to be in kindergarten teaching kids to read, write, and help them start their school career!

Tiffany Steinmetz

My name is Tiffany Steinmetz and I have been teaching at Cottonwood Creek for 23 years. I am a native of Colorado but took a detour to Tucson, Arizona for 18 years before returning to my roots. I am a mom of two beautiful teenagers who keep me young at heart while giving me plenty of grey hairs. I love to run, golf, and play tennis and I enjoy watching ALL sports. I am nearing the end of my career but look forward to yet another year full of adventure. I am excited to get to know my new families and reconnect with the old.

Susan Stroeher

Hi, my name is Susan Stroeher, one of the kindergarten teachers at Cottonwood. This is my 18th year teaching in Cherry Creek. Most of my teaching was done at Homestead Elementary and I made the move to Cottonwood four years ago. I have primarily taught kindergarten for the bulk of my career but have also taught first and second grade. I have three, nearly grown, children of my own. One is a college graduate, one is a junior at the University of Kansas and my youngest is a senior at Creek! I love to hike, play tennis, draw and spend time with my large extended family.

Jessica Neal

Hello Cougars!

My name is Jessica Neal and I teach Kindergarten here at Cottonwood Creek. This will be my second year at Cottonwood and my tenth year in the Cherry Creek School District. I was born in Aurora, Colorado, but spent most of my childhood in New Mexico. I moved back to Colorado in 1993, where I graduated from Overland High School. I attended Metropolitan State University, graduating with a degree in Behavioral Sciences and Reading while earning my teaching license. I married my high school sweetheart, Justin, and have 2 kids. Jacob is 20 and is in his third year of college at Metropolitan State University. Jackson is 15 and is a sophomore at Eaglecrest High School and is learning how to drive. When I am not teaching, I love to cook, bake, read and watch Netflix. You will also always see me with my dog, Sampson, by my side.

Additional Resources

Food and Nutrition Services has some very exciting news!

Dear Cherry Creek Schools Community,

Food and Nutrition Services has some very exciting news!

Thanks to extended funding from the USDA, we are able to offer FREE meals – breakfast and lunch – to ALL students through December 2020!!

Per USDA guidelines, qualifying meals must include 3 of the 5 meal components – Meat/Meat Alternate, Grain/Bread, Fruit, Vegetable, and Milk – one of which must be a fruit or vegetable. Additional meals (i.e. extra slice of pizza, or extra entrée) or a la carte (snack) items, are not covered by the USDA and therefore must be purchased at cost.

Although meals are free, we encourage families to still fill out a Free and Reduced Meal Application for the 2020-21 school year if they haven’t done so already. This ensures these benefits continue in January 2021 and enables CCSD to receive all possible school funding. The meal application can be found on

I also want to take this opportunity to remind you that should your student’s class be quarantined at any point during the school year, they can come by any Cherry Creek Middle School location on Monday between 7:15 – 8:30 am and 11 – 12:30 pm to pick up 5 full days of meals to eat while they learn at home. Definitely keep this in mind as a resource in the event of a quarantine.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns and we will be happy to assist.

We cannot thank you enough for supporting our amazing meal program!

Take good care,

Kim Kilgore RD, SNS
