Reminder No School Tomorrow- PD Day!
Family Tech Night!
Thank you to all of you who were able to come to our Family Tech Night. It was great watching kids taking ownership and sharing the pride they have in learning. If you were unable to come, look for a flyer in their folders today with the apps we have explored and will continue to explore!
Learning
Parents were learning how to explore different apps.
Engaged
Students presented their learning to their families.
Impressed
Parents were amazed at the amount of technology knowledge their child has learned.
Perimeter & Area
This week we worked on learning perimeter and area. We worked hard on making recommendations on which dog fence, with a perimeter of 36, would be the best for their dog to run around in. There were numerous rectangles that were made with a perimeter of 36. After we made our recommendations, we had to figure out which fence would give our dog the most area to run around in!
Creating robot with a specific area and perimeters also created quite a buzz! We realized that it's possible for people to create different shapes with the same perimeter and area.
Create
Building a unique robot with specific requirements.
Organize
Deciding how we will represent our thinking to share with other students.
Manipulate
Manipulating toothpicks to help us discover our fence options!
Reading & Writing
We have begun our study of Informational Reading and Writing. We've spent some time talking about what the meaning of Nonfiction (Informational) is and how it could be presented. We will continue our learning by thinking about ways to interpret Informational reading and questions what we are reading.
Dublin Literacy Conference
On February 20, 2016, Dublin City Schools hosts a literacy conference for area teachers. As part of this conference, we offer two sessions for families. Children's author, Amy Ludwig Vanderwater will be hosting a session called "Writing Together" from 9:00-10:00 am at Dublin Coffman High School. And from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Kristin Ziemke will conduct a family session titled "Kids Questions Matter: Fostering Digital Curiosity At Home." Both speakers are fabulous. I would highly recommend both sessions for you and your child if you are free that day. If you are interested, you can register online at http://goo.gl/forms/wjqWqj5l7Z . Sessions are free and limited to the first 100 participants.
Conference Night Reminder
As I stated last week, we will be holding conferences on Feb. 11th. If you would like to schedule a time to talk about your child's progress please e-mail me with a few times that work for you. I'm happy to meet with you to discuss your child!
