CHS Campus Buzz
Parent/ Student Edition ~ Issue 11 ~ Oct. 25-29, 2021
Principal's Message
TUESDAY: Tuesday we will administer the PSAT to students who signed up in 10th and 11th grades. We will also be hosting Sources of Strength training on campus for our sponsors and students.
WEDNESDAY: We will have a state send-off in the courtyard for our Lady Jackets softball team as they prepare to head to Columbus for the state tournament. Good luck to these ladies and their coaches!
We will also ask all staff and students to wear red in recognition of Red Ribbon Week and the community wear red day. This year's 2021 National Red Ribbon Week Theme is "Drug Free Looks Like Me". The theme is a reminder that everyday Americans across the country make significant daily contributions to their communities by being the best they can be because they live Drug-Free!
THURSDAY: We will be moving our Halloween costume dress up day from Friday to Thursday due to a change with our spirit Friday plans. Students are allowed to wear costumes to school, keeping dress code in mind and not wearing costume masks that cover their entire face/head.
FRIDAY: We have a BIG away game at Cartersville this week and it will be an extreme spirit/white-out game! Students are encouraged to deck out in their extreme spirit wear with a white-out in mind. This will also be a televised game on GPB!
Congratulations...REGION champs!

College & Career Corner
The Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) programs at Calhoun College and Career Academy (CCCA) are working this year to promote a new Community Connections program with locally owned businesses. The goal of the program is to allow CTAE students to utilize the knowledge and skills they are learning in the classroom by transferring their experiences for use in real-world, hands-on projects in the community. The students have an opportunity to gain experience, while the local business benefits by receiving some upgrades to help support their business.
This year, the Calhoun Community Connections program is working with Calhoun Coffee Company, a locally owned and operated business in downtown Calhoun. The Construction program at Calhoun College and Career Academy recently laid new flooring in the business and the Agriculture program decorated the outside area for fall. Senior Scholarship Information
First, college in any setting is expensive! Colleges have a wide range of scholarships and we do not have a magic listing or go-to guide for all of the scholarships that are available. First, start with the college scholarship websites. Second, the internet is your friend so use it wisely. Lastly, utilize our scholarship links that are posted under the Students Tab (Scholarship Opportunities) on the Calhoun High School website. We have linked it here! Mrs. Arnold will continue to update this throughout the school year.
If you are using Mrs. Arnold's email address for college applications, PLEASE make sure you are using her arnoldk@calhounschools.org email address! This is the email address that is linked to Common App, UGA Portal, Coalition, Slate, etc. If a student has used her CCS Jackets email on their applications, please let her know. You will need to log into your application and change the email to arnoldk@calhounschools.org in order for us to receive notifications and complete.
