A Message from Mrs. Austin, Principal
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We have been working hard at MYES to prepare for a return to five day in person instruction. Myersville Elementary is such a special place to learn and grow. We have high academic expectations for our Mustangs and strive to foster a school community where each student feels valued, accepted and safe.
Teacher assignment letters were put in the mail on July 30th. Please contact the school if you did not receive your child's information. On August 9, you will also receive information on how to access your child's Schoology account for the Fall:
New to FCPS Students:
- Parents will receive an email from FCPS. A Schoology Parent Access Code will be available to create a FCPS Schoology parent account if needed or add a new child to your current FCPS Schoology parent account.
Current FCPS students:
- Students can log into Schoology and see schedule information on their course dashboard.
We look forward to welcoming back our Mustangs on Wednesday, August 18th. In order to limit the number of people inside the building, parents will not be permitted to walk students to their classrooms, this includes Kindergarten. We appreciate your understanding with this safety consideration.
As I head into my second year at MYES, I want you to know that I feel blessed and honored to serve as your principal. Please know that my door is always open. You can contact me by phone (240-236-1900) or e-mail (dana.austin@fcps.org) with any questions and/or needs.
- Dana Austin, Proud Principal of Myersville Elementary

Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival- Students can begin to arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 am. For the safety of our students, students cannot be permitted in the building prior to 8:30 am. Instruction begins promptly at 9:00 am.
Walkers are asked to enter the building at the Kindergarten doors. Car riders should be dropped off in the back lot in the car rider loop between 8:30-9:00 am. Please remain in a single file line.
Dismissal- Walkers and car riders will be dismissed at 3:30 pm. Walkers exit from the main entrance while car riders are dismissed in the back of the school. Students will wait inside the school in the gym. Please remain in your vehicle while waiting in the car rider loop.
Car rider pick up will be in two waves in order to minimize traffic on Main Street. If you have multiple children at MYES, please arrive at 3:30. If you have only one child, please arrive at 3:40. Your adherence to these times will greatly support our school dismissal- thank you in advance. MYES will continue to use the hang tag system. Former families, please use the tags issued to you previously. If you have need hang tags, email marsha.meredith@fcps.org.
If there is a change in the way that your child travels home from school, please send a note that morning to inform the school of the change or complete the online google form: click here. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. This enables us to ensure that all students arrive safely at their final destination.
Message from Dr. Alban on COVID-19
As I mentioned in last week's update, FCPS is committed to ensuring students are able to regularly attend in-person instruction; therefore, we will continue implementing key preventive strategies to minimize the spread of COVID -19, which is sadly still with us. This includes requiring all students and staff to wear face coverings inside our schools for the start of the 2021-22 school year.
We are also counting on families to help prevent COVID-19 spread by keeping students at home if they are not feeling well and exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms. We will again ask families to complete a self-health checklist weekly as one of our preventive strategies.
In collaboration with the Frederick County Health Department, we will continue utilizing contract tracing and quarantining this year as part of our mitigation strategies against COVID-19. Individuals who are determined to have been within six feet of a person with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 for 15 minutes or longer will be considered close contacts. Close contacts will be required to quarantine at home for at least 7-14 days unless the close contact is fully vaccinated and remains asymptomatic or if the close contact has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days and remains asymptomatic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have provided an exception to the definition of a close contact for students in the K-12 indoor classroom setting: Students who are determined to have been greater than three feet from the infected individual are not considered close contacts and do not need to quarantine if both students were engaged in correct and consistent use of well-fitting masks AND other K-12 school prevention strategies, such as universal and correct mask use, physical distancing and increased ventilation were in place. This exception does not apply to teachers, staff, or other adults in the indoor classroom setting.
We will also be keeping our comprehensive COVID-19 data dashboard updated with FCPS and Frederick County health metrics. We know how quickly information changes during this pandemic and are committed to keeping the community updated on changing guidelines or requirements in a timely manner.
Food and Nutrition Services
Frederick County Public Schools, Food and Nutrition Services announces participation in the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) for the 2021-2022 school year. SSO is part of the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Program and has been approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to allow all children enrolled at Frederick County Public Schools to receive meals for free.
We encourage families to complete the free and reduced-price meal benefits application even though all children receive meals at no charge because the USDA provides funds that support the nutrition program based on your child’s eligibility. Eligibility for free or reduced-price meal reimbursement is based on the following annual income eligibility guidelines effective from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. Free and reduced-price meal benefits are available at all Frederick County Public Schools. Online and printable applications can be found at www.fcps.org/meals.
MYES Vision Statement
Myersville Elementary is a place where students and staff are engaged learners. They feel safe to take risks and all contributions are valued. Here we have fun while we learn in our school community.
