SCZ E-Learning Newsletter

From the Desk of Sean Dorsey, Sand Creek Zone Leader

A Message From Mr. Dorsey

I wanted to take a moment to give kudos to our staff, teachers and administrators. Everyone has been working hard to support students and the safety and wellness of our Sand Creek Community. I appreciate the time, effort, and research our teachers have been putting in over the last week and a half to make this unprecedented turn from the traditional classroom to E-Learning.

I also want to thank the parents and those at home with our students for putting in the time to implement these lessons and accessing the resources given; we know you are working too and some, getting through tough times, but we recognize your dedication to student success as well.

This is tough for everyone but we will be successful and do this together. We would love to hear how Week 1 of E-Learning was for you and your family. Please let us know how we can improve and what is working well for you and your student by filling out the E-Learning Feedback Form; this form is specifically for the Sand Creek Zone Schools. We would also love to share any kudos with a teacher, staff member or administrator that has gone above and beyond or just someone you would like to extend thanks. Have a great week!

E-Learning Spirit Week

Academics are important but we also know how much a positive culture and climate can impact a student's education. This week, we want to have a little fun! Below are descriptions for our first ever E-Learning Spirit Week!

Take a photo of your student dressed in their spirit day attire; like your school's page (if they don't have one head over to the Zone page) and tag your school (the Horizon Middle School Facebook page or the Sand Creek High School Facebook page) or the Sand Creek Zone on facebook or twitter (@sandcreekzone)! We will pick a winner from each school at the end of the week who went all out! Prizes include Dion's gift cards, Dairy Queen gift cards, and Chick-Fila entrees!

31 Days of Legos

This calendar offers a great way to challenge your kids (and yourself) to create something new with legos. Building with Legos at home is a great way to work STEM education into your child's day. They allow kids the freedom to express themselves creatively while teaching engineering, mathematics and spatial awareness....all while being fun!

Science Experiements You Can Do At Home

Teaching Life Skills to Our Teens

All parents want their kids to be able to do what we, as parents, often have to do daily. Now that there is some time at home, check out this article on what this family has been working on with their teenagers! Subjects include: cooking 5 basic recipes, ironing a shirt, making coffee, sewing a button, using hand tools and how to unclog a toilet...to name a few! We hope this sparks some ideas for you to come up with some necessary life learning while at home with your student!

Home Depot is Hands On

Home Depot is still open so while you are there grabbing supplies, be sure to ask the service desk for a kids workshop kit to use for some hands on art. These projects also teach kids to use basic tools and hardware. Check them out!

Take a break from the screen and get lost in the words. http://stories.audible.com/ These are not vetted by D49 but this site has a lot of great, free books for students to enjoy.
