Biography of Donatello
Born as Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi in Florence, Italy, around 1386. Friends and family gave him the nickname Donatello, because his real name was too long. Sculptor Donatello apprenticed early with well-known sculptors and quickly learned the Gothic style. Before he was 20, he was receiving commissions for his work. Over his career he developed a style of lifelike, highly emotional sculptures and a reputation second only to Michelangelo's. He was Machiavellian. He lived in Florence Ital his entire life. He took after Michelangelo and Leonardo.
Some fun facts about him are that some people said he was married and others said he had mistresses, but nobody knew for sure.
