Claires Court Bulletin
NURSERY AND GIRLS
NEWS FROM THE HEADS
Well the Chancellor of the Exchequer might have concerns about GB prosperity, competitiveness and entrepreneurial zeal but all is in fine fettle at Claires Court. The Independent Schools Association recently launched an Enterprise Week, asking schools what they were doing to encourage entrepreneurship. Well, we were proud to tell them that at Claires Court Girls and Sixth Form we do - Y8 Dragons Den Day, Y9 Tenner Challenge, Y9 Lexmark Breaking Glass Ceiling, Y10 Jaguar Marketing Challenge, Y12 Young Enterprise and soon to be announced our link with Adobe in their Girls into Technology initiative. All in all a pretty impressive commitment I thought, and I was even more impressed when our of our Tenner Challenge groups managed to make £105 in a day for an expenditure of £9.75 - who knew candles would be so popular! Alongside that we had the cleanest cars in any staff car park in Maidenhead, so great effort Year 9.

Carnegie and Greenaway Book Awards
The shortlists for the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals, the UK's oldest and most prestigious children's book awards have been announced! Run by The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) the Carnegie Medal is awarded for an outstanding book for children and young people and the Kate Greenaway Medal is presented to an outstanding book in terms of illustration. Often described by authors and illustrators as 'the one they want to win', they are the gold standard in children's literature.
We will be shadowing both these book awards in Junior and Senior Book clubs in the summer term until the winner is announced in June. Girls will be asked to read all the shortlisted books, evaluate their favourites and finally vote for their own Medal winner. For more information see here or come and see the shortlisted titles in the Libraries. A great idea for an Easter break read!
