Term 4 Week 5 Newsletter
18th November 2022
Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou katoa.
Another exciting week of learning comes to a close as we finish our fifth week of the term. All students have been out on the field practicing their athletics skills and having fun running, jumping and throwing in readiness for our Athletics Days next Wednesday and Thursday. More information is below, but we look forward to seeing our whānau at school to cheer on our tamariki. The inter school competition will follow a week after where our senior students will represent the West End School in these athletics events.
Our Sci-Fri sessions with Dr A have continued and classes have been conducting experiments to do with plants, the water cycle and evaporation. It has been wonderful seeing the engagement and questions that have come from these observations. Music lessons with Emma are gearing up towards our end of year festive performance. Students who have been involved with these lessons have shown great enthusiasm and dedication to learning instruments whilst building an understanding of the fundamentals of music.
It was wonderful to see so many whānau members come to our Pasifika and Maori celebration at our Vibe assembly. All students performed either a song or dance, and the whakamana to get up and perform was outstanding. It was also wonderful to see so many guitars and ukuleles in the hall and everyone being an active part of our celebration by singing or playing an instrument.
The PTA continues to be active in having many fundraising ventures to help support our kura. Tonight we have our school disco, which was a huge success last year. There is also a sushi and pizza lunch as well as calendar art to purchase which will be a great gift idea for Christmas. Thank you to all of our parent and staff volunteers for their dedication and hard work.
We have just over 3 weeks left of the school year and it is wonderful to see our school values on show every day. We look forward to celebrating your child's achievements with you in the coming month with our school reports coming out in 2 weeks, and we hope to see you at school for our end of year assemblies, celebrations and sporting events.
Have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Ngā mihi,
Matt

Athletics Days Next Week
Our tamariki have been learning the many fundamental skills associated with Athletics over the last few weeks. We will be holding two athletics days.
Our Year 3- 6 Athletics (Te Wao Nui o Tāne and Puawaitanga) will be held on Wednesday 23rd November. We will be holding our field events from 9.30am through 11.30, and our track events from 11.30 - 12.30. After lunch we will be holding the class relays as well as adults vs students relay.
Junior Athletics (Tipuranga) will be on Thursday 24th November. We will meet in the hall for a warm up at 10am and then outside for a variety of athletics skills and games. We will be finished by lunchtime.
Whānau are more than welcome to come and support our athletes during these 2 days. Tea and coffee will be available in the hall.
HELP NEEDED PLEASE! Because of the time of year, we anticipate it will be quite hot, so if you have a gazebo or shade that you would be happy for us to borrow for these 2 days, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Dan Minchin if you are able to help.
