Hawk Happenings
August 10-14
Here's what's happening at Spring Lake:
Hello Amazing Spring Lake Families!
I'm excited to welcome you back for the 2020-2021 school year! In less than two weeks we will be welcoming your students back!. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 19th. Our modified open house will be held on August 18th (more information included below). Students who have chosen remote learning will meet their teacher virtually at another time and do not need to attend the open house.
For those who are doing remote learning, you will be contacted by your child's remote learning teacher before school starts. If you need to check out a chromebook to use at home, please contact Mrs. Fechner in the front office who is handling device check out. Parents will be required to fill out and sign a contract and will be given the option to pay $30 for coverage on the device in case of damage or loss. The cost to replace a broken or stolen device is $300 if you chose to opt out of the coverage.
We appreciate your patience with our new registration system and are happy to announce that we have almost everyone registered (WOOT! WOOT!). I want to personally thank Mrs. Baxter for the HOURS of time she has given to get our new system up and running. We are ready to share teacher placements for next year on Monday, August 10th. You can access your child's teacher by logging on to the iCampus site or using the iCampus App on your phone. See below for more information. If you have not yet created a parent portal (as prompted after registration), please log and get that done so you will be ready to view teachers on Monday.
I apologize for the information overload, but want to err on the side of sharing too much rather than not enough information. Please read through this newsletter in it's entirety. It's chalk full with TONS of information and answers to the many questions we are receiving at the school.
Can't wait to welcome you back!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jordan

Back To School Open House: Tue, Aug. 18th from 12:00-3:00 PM
- Everyone in the school (parents, teachers, students, siblings) will need to wear a mask for the entire duration of their visit inside the school.
- Visitors are asked to sanitize upon entering the school and to follow directional signs in the hallways.
- Parents should not stop to visit in the hallways or gather in groups while inside the school.
- We ask that the visit to each classroom remain brief (no lingering or loitering for long periods of time in a single classroom).
- Please wait at designated waiting areas before entering the front office. We ask that only one parent enter and interact with the secretary at a time.
We apologize for so many guidelines, but kindly ask our patrons to follow them. We did not want to completely cancel our Open House, so these protocols are allowing us to move forward with it. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and support.
PARENTS ARE ASKED TO DO A WELLNESS CHECK ON THEIR CHILD/CHILDREN EACH MORNING AS FOLLOWS:
GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL? HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
A GOOD WATER BOTTLE WITH EASY ACCESS LID
A FACE MASK OR FACE COVERING OR FACE SHIELD
APPROPRIATE LUNCH CONTAINERS
BIRTHDAY TREATS IN 2020
**Please note that sending birthday treats is completely optional and is the choice of the parent. Teachers and staff make every effort to celebrate children on their birthday and sending treats is not necessary.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS & VISITS
ALL VISITORS TO SPRING LAKE MUST CHECK IN AT THE OFFICE AND BE SCREENED PRIOR TO ENTERING THE BUILDING FOR ANY REASON. Screening procedures are listed below.
If a parent needs to contact or see their child, come to the front office and your child will be called up to the office.
We want parents to know that we LOVE having you at our school and don't want anyone to feel unwelcome or nervous that you won't have access to your child. This is not the case. It is because we care so much about your child that we will be reinforcing these protocols.
To put it in perspective, imagine if we freely allowed outside visitors to be in and out of classrooms with no protocol in place and YOUR CHILD became exposed to the virus because of that negligence and members of your family became sick. We are asking our school community to join with us in reinforcing our safety procedures and protocols. It will make the difference between keeping our school open and safe throughout the year.
FACE COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED AT SPRING LAKE. IF YOU VISIT OUR FRONT OFFICE OR SCHOOL, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL PROTOCOLS
The first day of school is always such a fun day but can also bring feelings of nervousness and anxiousness for some children and parents. We are anticipating this even more so this year as it's been almost 6 months since children came to school.
We are working to make the first day a great experience for kids despite the many changes we will be implementing. We know that it's a tradition for parents to come to school on the first day to take pictures and help their child settle in.
This year we are asking that parents remain outside with their child to say goodbye and take pictures. We need to avoid large gatherings inside the school. If your child is having a hard time and it is necessary for the parent to come inside, a health screening will need to be completed in the front office.
You can begin now to reassure your child that they will be safe and have fun starting on day 1!
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN GETTING INVOLVED ON OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL?
The SCC consists of school administrators, teachers and parents who come together to provide feedback to school administration on school academic goals, decisions about school funding, safety protocols and concerns that may be impacting the school community.
Please reach out if you are interested. Parent positions on the council require a 2 year commitment. Parent must have a child who is currently enrolled at Spring Lake Elementary. Ballots will be sent to patrons the first week of September.
