Ms. Vickers' Kindergarten Class

August 26-August 30

They Did It!!

The kids made it through their first week of Kindergarten! I know you are as proud of them as I am! From now on, I will be sending weekly newsletters with updates, information, reminders, etc., that will keep you informed about our class. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Curriculum Night

I hope you are all able to come to Curriculum Night this Tuesday, August 27th. You will start in my room at 5:30 and move to the auditorium for the Administrative Orientation at 6:30. I will be going over our curriculum, the State Standards, discussing our classroom routines, and answering questions you may have. See you then!

Reminders and Important Information!

**We have P.E. on Thursdays, so please make sure the kids wear tennis shoes!

**The students are allowed to purchase ice cream from the cafeteria on Fridays for $1.00.

**Please help your child learn their car number to make dismissal run more smoothly :)

**Also, help your child with their pin number if they are buying trays from the cafeteria. I will be sending these numbers home on Monday.

Reading Tip of the Week

MAKE IT FUN!! Reading at home with your child should be fun and exciting for them. Many parents feel that reading should be challenging in order for them to learn. This is FALSE! Read the same book for the 100th time or they know by heart, even if it does not seem like it, this is how they learn to read!

"Children feel confident and competent when they read books that are “just right.” But how do you find a “just right” book? Have your child read the back and front cover, and first page of the book. If there are more than five words that he cannot pronounce or understand in context, the book may be too challenging. Be supportive about finding a more perfect fit. Choosing the right book will help your little reader feel successful." -Scholastic.com
