GWHS hope squad 2020 - 2021
What is HOPE Squad? HOPE Squads are the eyes and ears of your school. They are comprised of students who are trained to watch for at-risk students–provide friendship, identify warning signs, and seek help from adults. HOPE4UTAH works with school advisors to train students who have been identified by their classmates as trustworthy peers to serve as HOPE Squad members. Through evidence-based training modules, HOPE Squad members are empowered to seek help and save a life.
HOPE Squad members are NOT taught to act as counselors, but rather, are educated on how to recognize signs of suicide contemplation, and how to properly and respectfully report this to an adult. The members of GHWS's 2020 - 2021 HOPE Squad are:
Kaylee C.
Arlyn A.
Ashlyn L.
Kayle H.
Sage T.
Brian Q.
Victor C.
Leo S.
Bobby B.
Kenia V.
Rylee T.
Jordan C.

New Teacher - Danielle Turnage
Her classes have been studying the impacts of humans on the environment including: an overview of Environmental Science, COVID-19 and how it affects us, and most recently, climate change and the impact of carbon dioxide. Below are pictures of one of her classes conducting an experiment to determine whether an increase in carbon dioxide would result in an increase in temperature.
As for personal stuff, Danielle is enthusiastic about playing Dungeons and Dragons, she describes herself as "super-crafty" and she loves to read.

halloween - door decorating contest
The week before Halloween, George Washington High School held a door decoration competition. The purpose of this was to give students something fun to do with their advisory class. There were a bunch of different doors including: Mrs. Gardner whose class did their door like a mummy, Mrs. Kranz whose class used different scary movie characters for their door, Mrs. Mackey who had a graveyard with zombies, and Mr. Wilson’s class had a Beetlejuice theme door. The students liked to see all the different types of decorations that the other classes did.
It is a good idea to do things like the door decorating because students have fun doing it. Another reason is because students get to work with their classmates. Also, it gets students more involved, and allows them to show their creativity. These things are important because it follows the ARISE expectations for students to be Involved. It also is important because students can make new friends, try new things, and make new connections at George Washington.
Ms. Pezzella's class won with its take on the movie The Shining.
