St. Peter School News

February 2021

St. Peter School exists to provide a nurturing environment where students become Disciples of Jesus Christ, embrace the love of lifelong learning,

and believe in the dignity of all people.

Dear Family and Friends of St. Peter School,

The year is flying by! Ash Wednesday is next week, February 17th. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is a solemn reminder of human mortality and the need for reconciliation with God.

Catholic Schools Week was a bit longer this year due to all of the snowy and icy conditions. Nonetheless, our students were able to celebrate each day in a special way. Nearly $400 was collected on a Dress Down Day to purchase snacks for the doctors and nurses at Danbury Hospital. Mystery readers peppered our days and included: Officer Nicholas Puglisi, Ms. Radeschi (a St. Peter Alum), Fr. Mecca, Mr. Dan Jowdy, and Mrs. Torre. We are so grateful that each person was able to take time out of his/her busy life in order to help our students celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Students created Valentine cards for retired priests as well as some personalized cards for our very own St. Peter priests. Honoring essential workers was a theme and students created thank you and appreciation cards for health care workers, police officers and firefighters. Students "dressed for success", wore class colors, and collected non-perishable items for the local food pantry.

Registration is underway. Information has been provided to families personally and it can also be found on our website which is We know this year has been difficult for so many and we are grateful for your partnership. We look forward to having your child continue learning, thriving, and growing both spiritually and academically with us in the coming year. If you know of any new families who would like to have a Catholic School education for their child, please have them reach out to, mcorrea@spsdanbury, or

We are appropriately celebrating the Gospel Value of Hope this month. As the days keep getting a tiny bit longer and the weather keeps turning a tiny bit brighter, let us keep hope in our hearts as we pray for an end to the virus and a gradual return to normalcy.

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.”

St. Peter School News

Ash Wednesday:

Due to COVID restrictions, students will participate in the 9:00 AM Liturgy of the Word virtually from their classrooms, and Fr. Mecca will impose ashes to students in the classrooms after that.

Parking Lot Update:

The parking lot is icy. With that in mind, please be sure to drive slowly, pull up to the front of the line, stay in line (no passing), and stay alert (no cell phone conversations, please.)

Remember to use the playground parking lot, NOT the CIFC parking lot if you need to walk your child to the door. Please do not park in the CIFC parking lot and walk to the door to pick up students in K-8.

Distance Learning:

Please remember that Distance Learning is used ONLY with students who have a pre-arranged agreement with the school. It is not for occasional absences. If a child is home sick, it would be like any other sick day. The student would make up the work when they return to school.

Thank you for your cooperation regarding this important matter.

Parent Portal:

If you have not accessed the parent portal, watch for an email shortly with routine information...

Personnel Update:

We continue to look for an Early Childhood Director and a Spanish teacher. We have put our search for a PE teacher on hold for the time being. Please be aware that with the COVID - 19 restrictions, music and movement opportunities will be modified in accordance with regulations.

Before and After Care:

Be reminded that "Before and After Care" is by reservation only this year. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate drop-ins due to COVID-19 restrictions. Contact the office to reserve your spot or to be placed on a waiting list. We are sorry for the inconvenience this year.

World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser:

The fundraiser is moving along. If you need another box of chocolates to sell, contact the school office.

Please be sure to check out our website for up to the minute information:

Winter Weather:

Please remind your child to walk when entering the school yard as running increases the chances of slipping and falling. We thank you for your help in getting the word out to the students.

A reminder that coats and warm outerwear are necessary parts of the winter wardrobe.

Snow Days:

All further snow days will be remote learning days and teachers will provide specific information by class at that time.

The St. Peter Parish community always participates in some almsgiving during Lent. The Lenten call to almsgiving means making the needs of others our own as we prepare for Easter.

This year we will team up with the parish to provide personal care items for needy residents. Students can bring items to the classroom, and we will be sure that they get to the appropriate destination. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this act of giving!

Here is the schedule:

Week of 2/14 - Kindergarten Students and Pre K Students - Paper Towels

Week of 2/21 - Grades 6 & 8 - Laundry Detergent

Week of 2/28 - Grade 2 - Shampoo and Deodorant

Week of 3/7 - Grades 1 & 4 - Toothpaste and Toothbrushes
