A NOTE FROM OUR READING COACH
We have a couple of fun literacy events happening in March!
Monday, March 2nd: We will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Everyone is encouraged to wear red, black, and white in honor of one of his most beloved characters, The Cat in the Hat.
Friday, March 6th: The $1 bookstore will be open in Mrs. Porter’s room from 7:20-8:00. All books are brand new and only cost $1! Each student may purchase one book each month.
Throughout the month: We will be participating in a school-wide March Madness Book Challenge! This fun event will kickoff March 9. We will have a book bracket. Students will listen to different books and vote on which book is the winner each week. We will have an ultimate book winner by the end of the month!
As parents and caregivers, we all want to foster a lasting love of reading within our children. Here are 8 tips from reading expert, Donalyn Miller, on how to foster lifelong reading habits:
Model daily reading habits.
Set aside time each day to read.
Carry a book with you everywhere.
Provide a wide variety of reading material.
Read books aloud to your children.
Celebrate ALL reading.
Visit the library often.
Limit screen time.
Happy Reading!

Book Fair Success
Thank you to everyone who made our most recent book fair a success! Seeing our students excited about buying books makes this librarian so happy! I cannot thank our parent and faculty volunteers enough for all that they did to make this exciting week run so smoothly. All book fair purchases enable us to acquire more books for our library collection. If you are interested in volunteering your time to help during our next book fair, please contact me, Mrs. Payne.
SC Picture Book Nominee Voting
Over the last week, our students have been voting for their favorite SC Picture Book Nominee. Students have enjoyed reading and discussing several of the 20 picture books this school year. Ask your student which nominee has been his/her favorite. Based on student voting so far, the top 3 books for Concrete are:
