Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 3, Week 2 - 30 July 2021
HOLD MY HAND ...
Hold my hand Lord, show me the way.
Help me to be grateful for every day.
Show me the difference between right and wrong.
Keep me safe, Lord, all night long.
Give me direction on what to do.
Lead the way, Lord, I trust in you.
AMEN
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Mary’s Mount school community,
I wish to extend a big thank you to Mr Joe Bartucciotto for his invaluable support to myself and the staff of Mary’s Mount this week in Mrs Bell’s absence. Joe commented on the wonderful experience he had while with us this week, and that he enjoyed getting to know our community more. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Bell back next week, and we wish Mr Smith all the best whilst continuing his recovery from knee surgery.
This week has been a particularly bad one for illness with many students unwell. There are many coughs and colds spreading around in the school community. A reminder to parents/guardians that if your child is unwell, please keep them home to allow for their recovery.
I thank parents for making the time to attend three way interviews this week. These will continue next week. This has been a wonderful opportunity for students to be involved in the sharing and growth of their progress and goal setting for the term ahead.
A reminder to register for our YSafe parent information session next Thursday 5th August from 6-7pm. Please see the details and link below to register.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
God Bless
Erin Leech
Assistant Principal
THE MMPS CODE OF CONDUCT
A reminder that every member of the Mary's Mount Primary School community must behave in the manner described in our Code of Conduct.
Our Code is like the 40km/h speed limit outside our school in the mornings and afternoons. It defines behaviours that keep our students safe: at school, and elsewhere. Children and young people surrounded by adult and peer behaviours described in the Code are more likely to recognise and choose healthy relationships for themselves.
We each keep our students safe by following our Code of Conduct, and encouraging and reminding each other to do so.
For Staff, our Code of Conduct is a lawful direction and forms part of your employment agreement.
For parents, compliance is a condition of your entry to school premises.
You can easily find our school's Code of Conduct on our school's website under compliance via the link below, or collect a hard copy from the sign in desk in the front office.

MMPS CENTENARY MASS GALLERY
Our Centenary Mass was celebrated on the feast of our school’s patron, St Emilie on Thursday, 17 June, and was celebrated by Perth Auxiliary Bishop Don Sproxton, alongside concelebrants Father Antony Suresh, Fr Greg Donovan and Fr William Ousley OMI at Saint Mary’s Cathedral. Mass was followed by a wonderful morning tea prepared by the Mary’s Mount Primary School P&F where many friendships were rekindled and memories reflected on.
We were blessed to have so many past students, staff, families, parishioners from the Holy Family Parish Kalamunda, and the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Apparition join us on this special occasion.

CYBER SAFETY EDUCATION SESSION FOR PARENTS
** Do Not Miss this Session on Cybersafety **
Thursday 5 August, 6pm - 7pm (St Joseph's Hall)
Protecting children in their digital worlds is an ever-evolving task for Australian families. Now more than ever parents are looking for guidance in how to manage screen time and navigate the world of games and social media.
We are therefore pleased to help our parent community by offering a crucial and engaging education session with ySafe, Australia’s leading provider of cyber safety education. This practical, strategy-rich session will cover the most important points that all families need to know about online safety, covering key information about social media and gaming, screen time recommendations and step-by-step instructions on how to set up a cyber safe home for kids of all ages.
If you’ve ever struggled with getting your kids off their games and into bed, worried about the content of the games that they are playing or felt concerned that your child was spending too much time in the digital world, this workshop is for you!
Please register for this event by following the link provided. This is an important school event for all parents to attend. [RSVP Here via Eventbrite]
P&F UPDATE
Our next P&F meeting will be held this Wednesday 4th August from 1.30-3pm in the School Hall. We have a quite a few interesting items on the agenda that we'd love some input and feedback from parents from across the year groups on so please come along if you can join us. If you can't get to the meeting but would like to contribute an idea or feedback, please email us or contact your class rep who can forward those comments on.
It's exciting to see movement taking place in the new Sacred Space area at the rear of the school. The P&F are excited about this project and supporting part of the infrastructure and learning components that will comprise this area. We feel it will complement the other initiatives we have supported on the school grounds this year, which to date have included items for the new Nature Playground, the Bush Tucker Garden, Harmony Garden and new shadesail near the oval.
Yours in education,
MMPS P&F Committee

COMMUNITY NEWS
KALAMUNDA WATER PARK - OPPORTUNITY TO COMMENT
I am writing to you in relation to the future of the Kalamunda Water Park - in particular the 50m outdoor pool and the water slides. The City of Kalamunda is currently undergoing a Business Plan to decide which of 4 options they will adopt to resolve the current situation with the facility. The situation at the moment is that there are two complexes proposed. An Aquatic Leisure Centre in Forrestfield/High Wycombe next to the new airport link train station is to be built within 5-20 years. The second consideration is the immediate upgrade and heating of the current Kalamunda 50m outdoor pool to include hot showers which will be open seven months of the year. This option will possibly include an indoor 25m heated pool and an outdoor half-court basketball area.
The Kalamunda City has provided the public with an opportunity to comment on these decisions and I am seeking your urgent support and also that of your school community. I would encourage you to complete an on-line survey before the 8th October to show the City that both complexes are important to people of all ages and we need to secure these facilities for the future of our children. The survey is on the City's website at www.engage.kalamunda.wa.gov.au
Regards and thank you in advance for your support.
Andrea Williams, President, Maida Vale Masters Swimming Club.
