Attendance Policy - Recovery is a Real Thing
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
Attendance recovery is occurring now! Students can stay after school with any of their teachers for attendance recovery any day. Tuesdays and Thursdays we will hold general recovery for students. They will meet in the cafeteria after school and transition to the designated location. Please check your scholars absences, anything over 10 must be made up for each course. If you have questions, or need access to Power School, please reach out to Mrs. Wade (attendance secretary, or your scholars teacher directly.
Attendance Recovery Appeal forms will be distributed on January 13th and will be due no later than 20th. Please note that all appeals will be reviewed by the attendance committee. An appeal can be submitted for studetns that are passing classes academically and do not complete all of their attendance recovery.
Rule 1 ATTENDANCE: A student must attend every class every day unless there is an excused reason for the absence. Students who are tardy, cut school or class or have excessive unexcused absences (more than 10) are in violation of this rule and are subjected to adjudication as an undisciplined youth in Juvenile Court. In addition to any administrative response, students with excessive absences may be required to comply with the district’s recovery procedures.
All CMS high school students absent from eleven class periods will receive a grade of F for that particular course. This rule applies to all absences, whether excused or unexcused.
West Mecklenburg HS has an attendance recovery procedure for students to make up excessive class absences.
Recovery is flexible in terms of in-person or virtual, however all assignments must be equal to time missed in class. 45 minutes equals a class period (more than 50% of a class period).
Assignments shall be teacher generated from previous assigned material, review units on Edgenuity, etc.
For example - If a student misses 18 class periods from English II, the student will be expected to make up 8 class periods by completing assignments as determined by the teacher, with each assignments equaling 45 minutes.
