Summer PD for Math and Science

Learn some great strategies to start out the new school year

Workshops taught by Crystal Kirch

Crystal is a Burroughs High School grad (Crystal Lenderman) and was a high school math teacher in Southern California for seven years (2007-2014), having taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Honors, College Algebra, Math Analysis Honors (pre-cal), and CCSS "Course 1". She served as Department Chair from 2011-2013, was a member of the site Technology Committee, and was honored to be chosen as the 2012 "Educator of the Year" at her site.

She has transitioned to a new role (2014-present) as a Digital Learning Coach, working with teachers on integrating technology into their classrooms to support student learning. She presents nationally on technology integration, math, intervention strategies, and best practices. A BHS math teacher attended her presentation at the CUE conference last month and said that hers was the best session of the conference!

The first two days will be devoted to learning how to use Desmos and Geogebra, two digital math tools. The 3rd and 4th days will be devoted to learning how to create fun and interactive formative assessments to engage students and monitor their learning. In addition to formative assessment, the last two days will also focus on intervention strategies for all students.

We need to know if you will commit to attending this training so we can secure an expert trainer to provide small-group, hands-on instruction. You will have time to create lessons that you will use in your classrooms. This is not a "sit and get" with direct instruction. You will have time to play and learn. You will have time to practice, ask questions, and grow your expertise. You will be paid $20/hour, so you can earn up to $480 for attending all four days. Contact Sharlene Paxton (contact info below) for more information or if you have any questions.
