1. Holiday Health Nuts
We can put an Elf on the shelf (you're welcome for the reminder), but we can't put our health on the shelf!
We are wrapping gifts, but we can't call our eating clean a wrap for the month! "Holiday health" doesn't have to be an oxymoron. Sure, it's great to jump into January with a fresh challenge in mind, but think of how you will springboard your health goals if you take this month to not let up on your exercise, your clean eating habits, your sleeping routine, etc.
Here are some nutty holiday stats related to health & fitness:
- According to ABCNews, the average person will eat over 7,000 calories on Christmas day!
- They also reported Japanese people traditionally eat at KFC for Christmas dinner, thanks to a successful marketing campaign 40 years ago. KFC is so popular that customers must place their Christmas orders 2 months in advance.
- The largest gingerbread man in the world is a dieter’s nightmare, weighing in at a whopping 466 pounds, six ounces. The Gingerbread House, in Rochester, Minnesota, baked the giant cookie on February 21, 2006.
- An average of 5,800 people end up in the ER after suffering injuries from holiday decorating.
- According to a study from Men's Health, the average calories people will consume during every Christmas party attended is right at 4,900.

Here are a few holiday health tips to put into practice now:
- Christmas cookies, eggnog and leftover late-night snacks can tip us over the scales as the new year rolls over. Go into the holiday week with a plan in mind.
- Put the letters PC on your fridge. Portion control! A portion is the size of your clenched fist. Keep double-fisted by adding a water to partner with other beverages.
- Indulge without overindulging. Space your meals out, small healthy ones that is. Many studies suggest the weight that is gained over the holidays is never really taken off for most people. Do some extra exercise as you intake a few extra calories. Balance the intake & expenditure.
- Be aware of sugary drinks & all the sugar that sneaks into alcoholic beverages.
- Maintain your fitness. Get at least 3 workouts in per week this month.
- Connect with a family member or lifelong friend over the holidays. Get some emotional wellness in :).
- Manage stress during the holiday.
