Specials for the Week of March 3rd- 7th
It was wonderful to meet with you during conferences and share your child's progress with you. I have a fantastic group of students and parents and I am so thankful for all your support!
We will have a school wide Read In on Monday, March 3, 2014 for Read Across America to celebrate Dr. Seuss birthday. Students may bring their favorite Dr. Seuss book and may dress "Seuss Style"... stripes, polka dots, crazy colors, colored hair, crazy hair styles, ribbons, bow ties/ties, Seuss hats/ shirts/ character wear, boas, tiaras, accessories...
LANGUAGE ARTS
- * Building sight word vocabulary- W.O.W. Study- our new words this coming week are: take, give, ran, went, jump
- * Knowing letter sounds and blending sounds together to make words
- * Focusing on reading words with a short vowel in the middle
- * Working on producing rhyming words
- * Counting, blending, and segmenting syllables
- * Learning to find the "evidence" in a text to support or explain the author's thinking
- * Working on a non-fiction book about American symbols
- * Learning to write a persuasive or opinion story and phonetically spelling words to write a story
- * Working independently in Daily Five centers to become better readers, writers, and spellers
MATH
- * Counting by fives, tens and ones to 100!!
- * Composing and decomposing numbers 11-19
- * Representing addition and subtraction with objects, mental images, drawings, expressions, and equations
- * Building combinations of 5
- * Recognizing and knowing the value of coins; penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and the dollar bill
- * Counting forward beginning from a given number in sequence
- * Writing numbers and counting sets to 20
- * 1-1 correspondence
- * Comparing sets- more, less, same
- * Using our Math tools- the rekenrek and number line
- * Working on problem solving skills
- * Using "number talks" to explain our math thinking
SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES
We are working on:
- * Learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln
- * Learning about National Symbols- American flag, Bald Eagle, Statue of Liberty, and the White House
REMINDERS
- * All Six Flags Read to Succeed forms were due today! You can turn in Monday if you forgot.

- * Buck's Pizza Night is Tuesday, March 4th.
- * Boosterthon Fun Run is Thursday, March 6th at 1:20 p.m.
- * GCPS Snow Make up Plan: Craig students will make up three of the days on February 17, March 14 and May 22. From March 3 - May 14 Craig students will be on an extended day...ending at 3:15pm. The last day of school will be May 22.
- * Mark your calendars for Camp Invention, 2014 at Craig Elementary on
- June 2 – 5, 2014 from 8:00 – 4:00. Our new curriculum – MORPHED!

The BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN is here!
We're raising funds for technology and staff development! Each student came home with a Pledge Book with their own online access code printed on a label on the front. You can use the code to log them into funrun.com and start recording those pledges!!
Our Fun Run will be on Thursday, March 6. Parents are invited to come join the fun!! Kindergarten will run from 1:20- 2:00 p.m.
