From the Principal

This week, the kindergarten and first grade classes had a Fire Safety presentation. This presentation included 3 adorable black lab dogs. The students learned about fire safety and got to pet cute dogs. They had a great time. I have included some pictures below.

Fall parties are coming up soon. They will take place on Friday, October 29th. Due to Covid and us limiting our visitors inside the building, parents will not be able to attend the classroom celebrations. Pre-packaged snacks will be permitted. In addition to classroom celebrations, students will be having a character costume parade starting at 2:30. Parents can attend this parade, it will be outside along the front sidewalks. Following the parade, please plan to stay and enjoy a snack and hear information about what being a Title One school means to your child's education while our students are in their classrooms celebrating fall.

A few details about your child's character costume:

* Please, no masks to prevent students from easily seeing to walk the parade route.

* "Merry not scary" character costumes, please.

* We ask that students not bring make up that would need to be applied, because of limited time.

* There will be time for your child to change into their character costume right before their parade.

Have a great weekend!

Scholastic Book Fair

We will be having a Scholastic Book Fair on October 25-29. Your child is welcome to bring money to purchase books during their library times during that week. We will be having a parent event on October 29th at 2:30 for anyone interested in shopping at our book fair. Scholastic has great books at reasonable prices and Monroe Elementary gets a portion of the sales.

If you are interested in volunteering to help in our book fair, please contact the school. We are looking for parent help each day that week.

Remote Day- October 20th

On Wednesday, October 20th, our students will engage in home learning opportunities designed by our teachers. This specific information pertinent to your child's grade level has been communicated to you or will be shared by the end of the day today. There will be no assignments for preschool since they do not typically have school on Wednesday. During this time on Wednesday, our teachers will be engaging in deep conversations surrounding student data in all areas as well as next steps to address the data to make a difference for our students. If you have any questions, please contact your classroom teacher and/or Mrs. Paige.

Water bottles

Your child is encouraged to bring a water bottle to school so that they can have water throughout the school day. The school water fountains are for water bottle filling. If your child has a water bottle they can bring to school.

Costume Donation

If you have any costumes at home that you are no longer using, Monroe would be happy to put them to use for students that are in need a character costume for our Character Parade.

From the School Nurse:

Just a friendly reminder to turn in updated immunization records either to the office or via Final Forms.

Thank you! -Nurse Cici

Destination Imagination

Jonathan Alder will be hosting a Destination Imagination (DI) program in our Elementary through Junior High schools for the 2021-2022 School Year!

DI is a national competition program that engages participants in project-based challenges that are designed to build confidence and develop extraordinary creativity, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills. The goal is for our students to be inspired and equipped to achieve anything they can imagine in life. That means students have a fun learning experience that is kid-powered STEM centric and team driven. This friendly competition motivates teams to reach for the stars while also rooting for each other and celebrating differences in ideas. If your child is interested in participating please fill out this form, to participate as a Team Manager or volunteer please fill out this form. More information about DI can be found here.
