Coyote Howler

November 23, 2020

Dear Kincaid Families,

During this time of year we are relfective on the things we have in our lives to be thankful for. This year, with its ups and downs, and the uncertainty that Covid-19 has brought to us, I want to share with you some of the things I am thankful for.

  • I am thankful for our staff. They are dedicated to the work of educating our students. They put in hour after hour teaching online, preparing materials to post online, or meeting with individual or small groups of students online. Teachers and staff are always in a meeting, either with each other, parents, individual students, small groups, or teaching their whole group.
  • I am thankful for our students. We have a very high number of students that participate daily in both zoom sessions and complete their work online. Most of our students have overcome the challenges that exist with online learning through hard work, perseverence, and dedication to keeping a school schedule.
  • I am thankful for our parents and guardians. I know that teaching at home has had so many challenges, but you have been patient and have been available for your kids. You are there to figure out the technical issues that come with accessing online materials and you are there to coach your child through practicing the materials that your teachers have provided.
  • I am thankful that we live in this beautiful state. We are so fortunate to have our moose, eagles, and occasional coyote visit us on campus. We have the the beauty of frost on the trees, and snow on the ground to brighten up our winter months.
  • I am thankful that our staff is focused on solutions. Although our students have not been in the buidling yet this year, our teachers and staff have been focused on the solutions that may allow them to come into the building in the future.
  • I am thankful for technology. Although my family is scattered from California, Oregon, England and Alaska, we remain connected weekly through family group chats. Tech keeps us connected. Technology has allowed us to continue instruction with our students and has allowed our students to stay connected with their classmates.

Beginning November 30th, we are beginning face-to-face interventions with some of our students who have struggled with online instruction. Several of our staff have volunteered to meet with students and support them. Our students who have been invited are volunteering to come in for the intervention for some time with face-to-face instruction with our staff. Parents are providing transportation. Our Re-Entry plan will be followed. If you are wondering if your child would qualify for the face-to-face intervention, please reach out to me or your child's teacher. We are focusing the interventions on our most at-risk population of students who have not been able to regularly attend online instruction due to a number of factors. We are thankful that the majority of Kincaid students have supports at home to attend school twice a day online and are able to complete their assignments online.

We want to wish all our families a Happy Thanksgiving! We love you and miss you! I am including in this Howler a link to our Re-Entry plan, FAQ's from Nurse Rachel and a video that explains our Re-Entry plan. Also, I have attached a song that is dedicated to our staff and to our families for the work you are doing this year. I have also attached a flyer for school pictures. Enjoy this week with your families!

Sincerely,

Wendy Zorea, Principal

You Are Doing A Good Job!

This song is dedicated to our Kincaid Staff and to our Kincaid Families. You are doing the best that you can during this pandemic and we thank you for that. We hope that through this song you will know that we understand the struggles you are working through and we appreciate all that you are doing at home this year. Many of our teachers and our staff are parents too. They see how hard everyone is trying to bring balance to life.
