WM 2nd Grade Curriculum Update
November 2018
Reading and Writing
Reading
Nonfiction reading has been our unit of study. Students have been growing knowledge and becoming experts as they read nonfiction books. Readers study, notice details and question texts, as they read and put pages of texts together. Students learn about nonfiction text features and their purpose
Writing
Informational or nonfiction writing has been the focus during workshop time. Students choose topics they know a lot about. Students will continue to look at and read nonfiction writing. It is important for children to see truth in the world around them and be able to communicate this in writing. This unit will also include procedural or how-to writing, information writing and idea based writing. Children will spend time studying how-to books and notice the conventions of this genre.
