Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Jefferson Early Learning Center received the NRG Excellence in Energy Award in the Community Involvement category.
Seven Alief ISD schools were named winners of the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) Awards by the Texas School Counselor Association.

Kerr High School students placed in the 2022 Edward Gorey Envelope Contest, and their work will be exhibited at the Edward Gorey House Museum.
Ngoc (Evelyn) Huynh won first place in the 15-18 age category. Minh Tran, Minh Dan Phan and Sheila Nguyen were finalists in the same category.
Krisha Majmudar and Shixin Zhao were finalists in the 12-14 age category.
Alief ISD had a record-breaking week at the 2022 Texas Thespian Convention.
This is the first time that all four high schools have earned national qualifiers and will be attending the International Thespian Festival at the University of Indiana in June 2023.
Out of the 68 high school students who participated in technical, performance and team events, as well as college auditions and scholarships:
- 33 students qualified for nationals in performance and technical events
- 4 students made mainstage (perfect scores out of 3,100 students who competed)
- Kerr High School received the All-Star Troupe Award celebrating community service, student work, student leadership and production quality.

Congratulations to Alief ISD's Scholar Athletes for December!
Michelle Palacios Lorant (Hastings basketball) and Maurice Rennie (Hastings basketball) were selected for their accomplishments on and off the field.
Hastings High School teacher Voke Ogueh was selected to be a virtual crew member of the NASA Artemis 1 space rocket.
Ogueh, who teaches computer science at Hastings, was previously named an Amazon Future Engineers Teacher of the Year. One teacher from each of the Amazon Future Engineers Teacher of the Year cohorts was selected to experience this historic moment.
In addition to her selection, some of her student messages will also be selected to be broadcast on the Moon because Artemis is equipped with AI Alexa.
Elsik High School teacher Keri Reynolds was published in the 2022 issue of Trends, a peer-reviewed journal published annually by the Texas Art Education Association.
Elsik Ninth Grade Center secretary Gigi Anthony is a published author.
