May Update
What's happening at Central Middle School
May 1, 2023
Just like for our staff, it's important for our students to stay locked in and working hard until the finish line. It's not just because there's still much to learn, but also because it's a key life skill. Learning that you work/play hard all the way until the finish line.
Keep holding onto those routines and your student will see success all the way until the end.
It's going to be a-MAY-zing!

Stoneham Spartan Run - Fundraiser
CMS PTO Stoneham Spartan Run
The Stoneham Central Middle School PTO is excited to host a Stoneham Spartan Run fundraiser on Friday, May 26! Our goal is to raise $20,000.
What is a Stoneham Spartan Run?
It's a PTO fundraiser! Beginning May 8th, students will start asking family and friends for pledges and earn school-wide prizes. Every student, no matter how much they raise, will have the opportunity to participate in the Stoneham Spartan Run with their classmates on Friday, May 26! Toward the end of the school day, students will run or walk through a course on Pomeworth Field, going through obstacle stations along the way. *Parents/guardians will have to sign a waiver with Obstacle Fitness for students who want to do the obstacle course.
Why is the PTO running this fundraiser?
Many families may be familiar with the Fun Run fundraiser hosted by the Stoneham elementary PTOs.* The Stoneham Spartan Run is a way to level up the “fun” while raising money for the PTO to help pay for enrichments and field trips, sponsor school community events, and to support the staff and students in various ways throughout the year. While we hold smaller fundraisers such as Dining for a Cause, the Stoneham Spartan Run has the potential to be the PTO’s biggest fundraiser!
A school-wide enrichment program costs an average of $2500, and a field trip for one grade costs an average of $6000.
*The CMS PTO is coordinating with the elementary PTOs so we don’t reach out to the same businesses for sponsorships.
When does fundraising start?
Fundraising begins on Monday, May 8th, when you can register your student(s) on Pledgestar, a web-based fundraising platform. The link will be shared via email and the PTO Facebook page.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes! Stoneham Central Middle School PTO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible. Our EIN is 20-1317071.
Can a company match a pledged donation?
Yes! Many companies offer matching funds for employees who make charitable donations. Sometimes this process can take a few weeks, so ask if your employer has a matching gifts program as soon as possible.
Can parents/guardians join in the FUN?
Yes, we will need parent/guardian volunteers to help make the big event on Friday, May 26 a success! We will need people to help with set up, clean up, and to guide students through the course. Volunteers must have a CORI on file with the office and sign up here: https://signup.com/go/FMPQjFV
Can a company sponsor the event?
Yes! Please reach out to us at stonehamspartanrun@gmail.com with sponsorship leads.
Fun Run Schedule for Friday, May 26 (rain date May 30)
Grade by grade, starting at 1:00pm, students who want to participate will walk/run up to Pomeworth field, where volunteers will guide them through the obstacle course. The course ends back at the school building. The event will be over by the end of the school day.
What should my student wear?
We recommend that students wear what they would to be ready for gym class. Thanks to our event sponsors, the PTO is able to provide a free t-shirt for every student. Shirts will be distributed on the day of the event.
What if my student isn’t able to run the course?
Every student is welcome to participate. They can walk the course if that’s more their speed, skip obstacles that seem too challenging, or contact the Stoneham Spartan Run Committee about volunteer opportunities.
If you have any questions please contact the PTO’s Stoneham Spartan Run Committee at stonehamspartanrun@gmail.com.
THANK YOU in advance for your support! We’re looking forward to this fun event!
