My journey as International Vice President of South Central Region began in July, 2021 at the virtual International Convention. I has been a very educational and enlightening two years as I visited all five states and Mexico to install officers. The first year was spent working on the conference and I had so much help. The host state really came through and I thank my Kansas sisters for that. So many of you participated in making it a very fun conference. Lots of laughs and hugs were shared after being a part so many months. Dancing and Cowboy boots and hats...John Wayne....my laryngitis......the bus disappearing at the VIP event and the USAF flag team canceling at the last minute...but the Blues Brothers and the Fiddler and the western songs...Overall a wonderful memory of sisterhood at its finest for me. Thank you all for making that possible. It took a lot of sisters from every part of SCR.
Next my work with the new S/P/N officers was a delight. You should be very proud of your leadership 4 Ps. They learned the job and followed through like pros with great newsletters, a love of Alpha Delta Kappa and they made things happen. The DPA, the CNA, the EIE and zooms with mentors and Nancy and I kept them busy. They will finish their terms as Stars of the SCR after another year in office. They learned to voice their opinions and that they would be heard. The SCR voices helped change a lot of things that weren't working well. I thank them for their boldness and stepping up to let our leadership know their thoughts.
Good luck to these wonderful teams and as Elisa Torres joins the Texas Team of leaders, she will need your full support and I know she will do a wonderful job.
I got to see the inner workings of International Chapter and how our organization gets work done--from the input by the elected leaders bringing new ways to look at things as business was conducted. My time of the International Membership Committee took many long zooms each month and lots of subcommittee work as we went over all our membership documents to update or change them and debate those changes--as everyone on the committee has input. These jobs of the IVP really helped me learn the ins and outs of our organization. I treasure my time working with our wonderful leaders Mollie, Ann Marie, Judy G., Betty Jo and others.
As we change to a new structure and have new Regional Officers----Nancy, Cheryl and Carol---you are in good hands. They are experienced and enthusiastic Dream Chasers who are our new Stars in SCR. I wish them all the best of luck and hope they know I am just a phone call, text or email away if needed. Things will be different with the Regional Council and Regional Executive Board but they will learn and help you learn how it woriks. Please give change a chance.
Now this cowgirl has to ride off into the sunset as the last of the IVPs. I thank you for trusting me with this job and I treasure all the sisters I have met in my zooms and journeys and will forever keep you in my heart. I'll still be around as the International Chairman of the Professional Development Grants and Scholarships Committee and the SCR representative on the committee. Alpha Delta Kappa is dear to my heart and my times as chapter officer, state officer and regional officer are experiences I treasure. I encourage you all to continue your leadership journey and step up for office at what ever level you feel comfortable with. It's a work of the heart.
I hope to see many of you in KC in July. It's not too late to register. We will celebrate our 75 year as Alpha Delta Kappa. We are coming home to KC where it all began at the hotel where the 1957 Convention was held.
Thanks for the friendships, hugs, gifts, cards and support over the last two years. I love you all.
