Wisdom from the Queen Bee - Mrs. Hall
As the year winds down, there is still a lot of learning taking place at Hose. Students are busy with end of the year projects, showing what they learn for their final report cards, and having fun with friends and classmates. Attendance is still important, so please make sure your child is here on time ready to learn. Summer school information came out recently, so please contact office with any questions or concerns.
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Tucker
1. Be a good listener. Just knowing you are there means the world when someone is hurting. If they come to you at a time you can't talk, let them know that what they have to say is important to you and you will talk with them a bit later when they can have your attention.
2. Encourage empathy. Ask questions to help them identify their feelings, other's feelings, and have perspective on the situation. Sometimes they only see their part of a situation and need guidance to think of others.
3. Give truthful and caring responses. While children may not need all the details of family situations, sharing what they need to know in a loving , age-appropriate way can help kids be prepared and will help them trust you.
4. Model healthy coping and support. Letting your child see that you have support for yourself - a friend you talk to or some methods of self-care - shows them healthy ways to respond to their own feelings. Big feelings will happen for all of us, and we want to model healthy ways to handle them. Our kids are watching.
5. Know when to get help. If the way you or your child think or act is impacting your daily life in a negative way (your ability to work, be successful at school, have healthy relationships, etc.), it is time to get help. Decide what your options are that fit your budget or insurance. Good therapy or working with a doctor if medication is needed can help make you your best self.
