By : Blair Freeman, Cameron Elder
When did pompeii occur????
Fourteen hundred years ago a central American volcano erupted, encasing an entire village in ash. Today that modest village is revealing what no stone temple or gold mask ever could.
What the city of Pompeii looks like today and who was involved???
There were no people involved in the Pompeii disaster, it was an act of nature. However Pliny the Elder went along on a rescue mission and lost his life doing so. His nephew, Pliny the Younger, wrote about it afterwards. The only other person of note to be involved was the emperor Titus who sent aid to the survivors.
Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius is best known for its eruption in AD 79 that led to the burying and destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. That eruption ejected a cloud of stones, ash and fumes to a height of 20.5 miles, spewing molten rock and pulverized pumice at the rate of 1.5 million tons per second, ultimately releasing a hundred thousand times the thermal energy released by the Hiroshima bombing. People diddnt leave Most likely just what happened with Mount St. Helen's. A sudden, explosive eruption that couldn't be anticipated even with modern technology. So it's even less likely that, in the time that Vesuvius erupted and buried Pompeii, people would have anticipated the eruption and by the time it did, there was no way to escape
