MEET MS. ABRIL AGUIRRE

Hi HSE! I am Ms. Aguirre and I teach PLTW (STEM). This is my 2nd year teaching in Harmony and I am so thankful to be part of an amazing group of teachers. I am from South Texas and have received my bachelor's in Engineering from the University of Rochester, NY. I truly love teaching this engineering-related subject and watching the students develop an apt for designing, problem solving, and building in my class.

Hearing students tell me "I want to be an engineer when I grow up!" or "I want to become a computer scientist!" is exciting because it allows me to. I am also a coach to our award winning Drone Competitive Team! When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my family, my dog Bix, traveling, and exploring Houston's diverse sights.

Important Information regarding Student Attendance from Ms. Acosta

Ensuring that our students are at school every day is vital to a student’s success. The Texas attendance rules state that a student has to be in a class at least 90 percent of the time in order to get credit for the class. The 90 percent rule applies to most absences, including excused absences. The Student Handbook explains our school’s guidelines on absences, tardies, and making up missed schoolwork. Becoming familiar with the school’s policies will help you manage your child’s attendance and ensure that he or she avoids too many missed school days.

Although perfect attendance is the goal, it’s not always possible. Therefore, please keep the following points in mind:

  • If your student is absent you will have 3 days to provide a note by the parent or doctor otherwise, the attendance will stay as an unexcused absence.
  • The parent excuse note should state the following:
    1.) Full student name
2.) Reason of absence in detail for record purposes.
3.) The date(s) the student was absent.
  • Parent-written excuse notes need to be on letter-size paper(8X10). We will not accept sticky notes or torn-off pieces of paper
  • Three accumulated tardies are considered one absence.

Message from our Admin

Hello HSE Family,

For morning drop off, we're requiring all parents to stay in their car and follow morning drop off either in the front of the school or the North arrival area.

Please do not park in the campus area to walk your students. Parents are supposed to stay in their cars and drive to the drop-off areas so that students can get out of the cars.

For the safety of our students and yours, please do not park on Brook River Drive and walk your child across Gessner Road. Gessner Road is a very busy road with a set speed limit of 40 MPH. Also, DO NOT STOP AND DROP YOUR CHILD OFF GESSNER ROAD! Thank you for understanding!

We will keep the first U-Turn open when you come from Gessner Rd (It was closed today but it will not be closed again). Please do not use the second U-Turn and please do not cut in line.

We will have a police officer several days a week to reinforce these issues.

Have a good day!

NO STUDENT DROP-OFF IS ALLOWED BEFORE 7:00AM!

Please do not drop off your student(s) at the school before 7:00am.
