~A letter from your Superintendent~
August 2018
Dear BCIT Families:
Summer vacation is more than halfway over, and back-to-school time is quickly approaching. Staff and administrators have been working diligently to ensure that when our students return to school, resources are in place to support teaching and learning. BCIT has received great press over the past few months, which is indicative of the many enhancements we have made to our programs and operations, resulting in one of the largest freshman classes on record. The transformation is exciting and the word is now out. Please see my blog or our website for more information. https://www.bcit.cc/Page/7335
We are proud of our major renovation to the Medford cafeteria area and culinary program. We apologize that the project will not be complete until after the start of the school year, but the upgrades are welcomed enhancements. We are continuing to improve the integration of technology into classroom instruction while maintaining and improving facilities and security. To this end, our administrative team was trained in the ALICE Responsive Security training during the summer along with other districts to enhance our proactive responses to intruders and potential active shooters among other security drills to enhance minimal impact to students and staff. We continue to ramp up our presence on social media and hope that our students and parents are seeing a real difference. We just pushed out our first online alumni survey and intend to select our first Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement recipients to capture the legacy of many of our alumni and community supporters. Last, I am proud of the progress we are making in our Literacy for Life Program and the various interventions taken to support our ongoing efforts to promote desired achievement results. Congratulations!
The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 5, 2018.
