Mrs. Miller's Weekly Update
May 2- May 8, 2022
*** SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE! ***
Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we have some great things to celebrate this week!
Since 1984, the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has designated one week in May as a special time to honor the individuals who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. This, year, staff appreciation week is May 2nd - May 6th.
We appreciate our staff every day at GHVHS, and this week we are going to do something special every day to show that appreciation.
Click the link below to see how the administrators and community members are honoring our staff Monday through Friday.
*** SEAL OF BILITERACY ***
A seal of biliteracy is an award given by a district to recognize students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages, one of which is English, by high school graduation. Governor Kim Reynolds signed Senate File 475 into law during the 2018 legislative session.
"A seal of biliteracy is important because knowing and using more than one language is a critical 21st-century skill. A seal of biliteracy:
- Values language as an asset;
- Recognizes the value of language diversity and cultural identity;
- Prepares students with 21st-century skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and
- Provides employers, universities, and grant or scholarship providers with a method to recognize applicants for their dedication to attaining biliteracy."
To earn a seal of biliteracy is a rigorous and demanding process, and we are thrilled that 9 of our students have earned this academic honor. Congratulations to Señora Bahnsen and our talented students, pictured above.
