Message from Principal Griffiths
I had the opportunity to tour Hallinan this week! While it is not quite ready for occupancy, I am so excited to see the progress. We've added some photos below of the new Innovation Lab, the Library and Main Entrance. That's me (to the right) in one of the openings that will be a garage door type window in our new Innovation Lab.
Hallinan is going to be amazing when finished, but it will not be ready for visitors during Meet and Greet/Supply Pick-up on September 1-4. Instead, Meet and Greet/Supply Pick-up will be at Uplands Elementary (2055 Wembley Park Rd, Lake Oswego).
For Hybrid Students: Sign-ups for Meet and Greet, September 2-4, will be emailed to you by your student's teacher on August 25 in the late afternoon. At Meet and Greet, you will meet your child's teacher and pick up a school device/charger for online learning, school supplies if you ordered them in advance and books/supplies as needed.
For LO Online Students: Sign-ups for Meet and Greet, September 2-4, will be emailed to you by your student's teacher on August 25 in the late afternoon. Meet and Greet will take place online. Supply Pick-up will take place at Uplands on September 1, time to be determined.
School Supplies: If you ordered school supplies through the PTO, they will be available during Meet and Greet for pick-up. If you did not order school supplies last spring, the recommended supply lists can be found here, feel free to purchase supplies that you need or use supplies that you already have at home. If your family needs assistance with supplies, please contact me.
With District approval, the Elementary Principals have created guidelines for how we will assign cohorts. Please see the letter below for details.
If your student will not be attending Hallinan in the Fall, please email Lee Gates at email@example.com (or reply to this newsletter) so we can plan accordingly and remove you from further communications.
We are all eager for your students to meet their teachers and we are looking forward to seeing you at Meet and Greet and/or Supply Pick-up.
Get outside and enjoy the sunshine!
Class Placement and Cohort Information
LOSD Elementary Families,
We are very excited to welcome students and families back to school on Tuesday, September 8. Between now and then, we are making detailed plans in preparation for this very unique school year. A big part of that preparation is organizing students into classes with teachers and peers, and assigning cohorts.
Students in the AM cohort will have their math and language arts classes in the morning and their science, social studies and health, music, PE, and innovation in the afternoon. That schedule is flipped for students in the PM cohort.
Our priority is to create balanced classrooms. Like past years, our placement teams consider many factors including, but not limited to: number of students, gender identity, TAG, students with IEPs/504s, program placement, siblings, etc. This year, we are also considering cohort sizes based on ODE and OHA guidance, and assigning teachers to Hybrid and LO Online models.
In addition to the considerations above, our placement teams will also consider maintaining an even number of students in the AM/PM cohorts. Cohorts will be organized alphabetically. As per School Board decision on July 27, students with last names starting with A-K will be in the AM cohort, and last names starting with L-Z will be in the PM cohort. Because we must maintain balanced classes, for some grade levels, the A-K and L-Z division may be heavier on one side vs the other, thus requiring a shift from one cohort to the next based on the number of students.
We understand families have different circumstances, and some may wish to request a specific cohort. Approved change requests will support balanced classrooms in Hybrid and LO Online. If you have a specific cohort request, please contact your principal.
Placement teams will be meeting on the first day of their teacher contract. Families will receive their class/cohort placement on the evening of Tuesday, August 25.

Verify Student Info Before Returning to School
LOSD thanks all the parents who have already verified their students' information for the 2020-21 school year. If you haven't done so yet, please to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Allowing parents to review the health conditions on file at your student's school.
- Enabling distribution of electronic devices covered by the district's Technology Agreement
The verification window closes September 18, 2020.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account, contact Lee Gates at firstname.lastname@example.org. For assistance with the verification process, refer to the user guide on the LOSD website or contact Lee. Please note that verification is not part of the ParentVUE mobile app. However, a button in the app allows you to open verification in a web browser, or you can log into ParentVUE on a computer.

Hallinan Renovation Update
The Hallinan Elementary Renovation Project will bring significant improvements to the forty-year-old facility, including upgrades in safety and security, technology and seismic and infrastructure.
It was so fun to see all the changes at Hallinan. The front entrance pillars have been erected for our new entrance canopy which can be seen in the photo to the right. The Innovation Lab feels enormous and I am so excited to see all the creativity that will happen there. The Library has undergone some pretty extensive remodeling as well, but will remain the Library we all know and love!
Office Contact Information
