District 117 Reopening Plan
On Friday, the Return to Learn plan was released for families of students who will be attending Pre-K. The guidelines for early childhood programs differ from grades K-12, and our plan reflects these developmentally-appropriate guidelines. If your child will be attending Pre-K at Sorrick this year, please review the Pre-K Return to Learn plan and complete the survey to select remote or in person learning. The deadline for submitting your selection is Tuesday, August 11th by 9:00 AM. If we do not receive a response, your child will be enrolled in IN-PERSON learning.
Important Information and Reminders
In-Person Learners:
Masks
- All staff and students are required to wear a mask while they are in the building. If your child hasn't already been practicing, now is a good time to get him/her used to wearing a mask. Any student who refuses to wear a mask will not be allowed to remain at school. The child will need to continue engaging in remote learning from home until he/she is prepared to wear a mask at school.
- Tip: A good way to get your child excited about wearing a mask is to purchase themed masks with his/her favorite characters. As a parent of a two-year-old myself, I have found that this has been very helpful.
- Mask lanyards will be provided to all students while they are at school so that masks can be removed during approved activities like eating lunch or engaging in outdoor physical education classes. This will reduce the likelihood that masks are dropped or lost.
Water Bottles
- Water fountains will not be turned on at school. Students will, however, be able to fill up water bottles throughout the school day. Please send your child to school with a water bottle that can be kept at his/her desk throughout the day.
Arrival and Dismissal
This school year, school hours for students are different from prior years:
- School Hours: 9:45 AM - 3:15 PM
- AM Session: 9:45 AM - 12:00 PM
- PM Session: 1:00 PM - 3:15 PM
Remote Learning
- This will be the first time our teaching staff will be teaching both online and in-person learners simultaneously. Staff members will be utilizing new technology in order to make this possible, so your patience is appreciated as we familiarize ourselves with this new technology and way of teaching.
- Remote learners will be assigned specific times to log on and engage in online instruction. Attendance will be taken for remote learners as well as students attending in person. Please be aware that your child will be marked absent if he/she does not appear online at the specified time.
- All teachers will provide families with their contact information. If you have questions for your child's teacher or your child needs assistance, we are here to help! You will also be provided with contact information for staff members who can provide technology support if needed.
