Lady Vikings Basketball Program Travels To Ole Miss Camp

Our Lady Vikings basketball team is coming off the most successful season in program history where they finished 23-5 and won GAC South and District Championships. This past week our Lady Vikings traveled to Ole Miss to participate in their team camp in preparation for the 15-16 season. The team camp provided the opportunity to bond as a group and to play some of the top programs from the South in front of college coaches.

Tennis Raises Expectations During Off-Season

Coach Carlson (Boys) and Coach Wilson (Girls) have made a huge impact in the boys and girls tennis programs in their first season at FHHS. The expectations within the program have been raised and the buy in within both programs has been overwhelming. Tennis camp saw record numbers this summer and our boys and girls tennis players are on campus weekly training in the weightroom and on the court. Cheer Attends Camp At SEMO

This coming school year the FHHS Cheer program will be looking to increase school spirit and they have gotten off to a quick start this summer. The cheerleaders went on the road to the UCA Cheer Camp at Southeast Missouri State University. Over the course of the camp our JV and Varsity Cheerleaders earned the "Spirit Stick" as well as recognition for leadership, jumps, tumbling, and motion. Congratulations to our cheerleaders on a great week of camp. We are looking forward to an exciting 2015-16 school year. You can view video and pictures of our cheerleaders at camp below.

Boys Basketball Camp Has Over 100 Attend

The Boys Basketball program program finished the season 20-7 and earned the GAC South title during the 14-15 season. The preparation to defend the GAC South title has begun with camps and open gyms. Last week the boys program held their youth camp and had over 100 kids attend. The week was filled with skills and leadership development lead by the boys coaching staff and players within the program. The future is looking bright for the boys basketball program!

Football Attends Mizzou Team Camp

After coming off a strong 2014 season that saw the Vikings make an appearance in the State Final Four they are back on the field preparing for the 2015 season and expectations are high. The Vikings already have several players on the roster with offers from NCAA Division I and Division II programs. The "boys of fall" took over 80 players on the road to the Mizzou Team Camp in Columbia, Missouri to prepare for the upcoming season. With just 7 weeks remaining until fall sports begin, the football program is hard at work to make a return trip to the Dome in 2015.

FHHS Limelight Theatre Board Creates Trevor Joerling Scholarship

The FHHS Limelight Theater Board recently created a Trevor Joerling scholarship in honor of the FHHS student. Joerling was a beloved member of the FHHS Drama Club prior to his death last spring from Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The recipient of the inaugural Trevor Joerling Memorial Scholarship was Jack McCarthy from the Class of 2015. McCarthy will be attending Saint Louis University and will be studying Chemistry/Pre-Med.

Howell Coaches & Student-Athletes Attend "What Drives Winning" Conference

Both student-participants and coaches are busy this summer preparing for the 15-16 season. A major component of this preparation for next season is offering opportunites for our coaches and participants alike to become better people and to learn how they can greater lead. As the FHHS Activities Department moves toward a model that will aim to develop and improve the entire student-participant in their activity and as a person, our coaches will receive professional development and are receive training throughout the summer.

Last week several coaches and student-participants attended the "What Drives Winning" Conference. The conference featured high profile coaches such as Shaka Smart, Anson Dorrance, Jack Clark, Billy Donovan, Sherri Coale, Sue Enquist, Tim Walton, and Brett Ledbetter, The conference focused on human performance, character, and focussing on the process to maximize individual and team performance. As we move through the summer we will continue to share with you the many activities our coaches will be engaging in over the summer and will be sharing several new programs that will be in place for our student-participants next school year.

2015-16 Sports Eligibility Packets Available Online

You can now get your 2015-16 FHHS sports eligibility packet online through this link - FHHS Sports Eligibility Packet and on our website. In order to compete in a MSHSAA sponsored activity during the fall, winter, and spring seasons you must have all paperwork contained within the packet complete prior to tryouts. You may drop off this packet in the Activities Office during the summer or at the Fall Meet the Coaches Night on July 23rd at 5 p.m. Those that plan on participating in a fall sport and do not have this packet 100% complete and on file in the Activities Office by July 31st at 12 noon are at risk of not being able to tryout on the first day of fall sports on August 3rd. If you have any questions regarding the packet please contact the FHHS Activities Office.

As we put an end to a very successful 2014-15 school year we have already begun to look forward to the 2015-16 school year. Below you will find several important dates that are quickly approaching that are important to all student-participants at FHHS.

June 27 - July 5 - MSHSAA Summer Dead Period

July 23 - Fall Meet the Coaches (5:00 p.m. in Commons)

July 26 - August 2 - MSHSAA Fall Sports Dead Period

August 3 - First Day of Fall Sports

Impact Testing Dates To Be Released Soon

The FHSD is committed to ensuring the safety of all of it's student-participants. As part of this committment the student-participants listed in the activities/sports below must have a current baseline Impact Test on file. Impact Testing is a scientifally validated computerized concussion evaluation system that is used at FHHS. If you are an incoming freshman, new student-participant to FHHS, or junior in the activities/sports listed below you must complete Impact Testing prior to tryouts on Aug 3rd. WIthin the coming week we will be releasing test dates when you can receive your baseline test. The test takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
