Rick Hazlett and I am a music teacher for Grade 5 and Secondary students.
2. Where are you from?
Arizona, USA
3. Family?
I met my wife 14 years ago after I had lived in Taiwan for a few years. The UAE is the first foreign country that she has lived in.
4. Childhood nickname?
Tricky Ricky or Ricardo
5. Favourite food?
Roast duck
6. Hobbies?
Cycling, triathlons, tennis
7. Favourite place in the UAE?
Running along the canal opposite the Burj Khalifa.
8. Most memorable experience as a teacher so far?
I’ve really enjoy singing and playing instruments with students.
9. Funniest moment in your teaching career?
I had been preparing some band students on some songs that they were going to perform. I sat down to play the flute with a girl who was playing the flute part. I had been telling her over and over not too slow down. I realised that it was a hard part and I started to slow down while we were playing. She looked at me and said, “It’s not so easy, is it?”
10. The most challenging moment in your teaching career?
In my first year of teaching PYP music, I had to spend many hours searching for and creating resources for my classes.
11. Childhood hero?
My elementary school band teacher and Spiderman
12. If you weren't a teacher, what would you be?
I’d probably be a veterinarian.
