We Engage We Educate We Inspire
Hello Stallions!
We had a great week last week at the Ranch! Students are settling into the routines of school and even our Kindergarteners are getting the hang of moving around the building. From Kindercamp and Preschool to 6th Grade, our students are engaging in their learning and showing great character!
We have a program called SPICE at Sonoma Ranch. SPICE stands for Social, Pragmatics, Independence, Communication and Emotional Regulation and is the GPS program for students with Autism. This year Sonoma Ranch welcomed the addition of a SPICE I Kindergarten classroom making us the only elementary school in Gilbert with every possible classroom available to students with Autism. This is a great thing for these students and a wonderful opportunity for our entire school community. I have included a link to the document Growing Up Together which provides useful information from the Autism Society of America. Our students with Autism are a big part of what makes Sonoma Ranch great!
This week is a busy one at the Ranch. Monday is the solar eclipse. I sent an email home last week explaining how we would be approaching this event at Sonoma. Once the bell rings to start the day on Monday students won’t be outside again until the end of the day. Each grade level will head to the library at lunch recess time. The NASA broadcast of the event will be available for viewing as well as eclipse related activities. Our hope is to maintain our mission to educate while taking the necessary steps to keep our students safe. Of course, if you’d like to check your student(s) out of school to view the eclipse as a family you are welcome to do so.
This week we have Curriculum Night on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. This is an opportunity for the teachers to share with you about their classrooms and the curriculum we teach. The presentations are not geared toward students, so it would be best if you did not bring your students with you that evening. Some of the grade levels are presenting as a group in the library while others may be in their classrooms. Each teacher will let their parents know where the presentation will take place and that evening we will help make sure everyone gets to the right place. The Curriculum Night schedules are on the parent calendar and included below.
One of the many fun traditions we have at the Ranch is supporting our Kindergarteners as they learn their colors. Each week for the next several weeks our Kindergarten classes will focus on learning a color. As a fun way to help them, we encourage everyone to wear that color on the Thursday of that week. This week we begin with the color red. So we would love for everyone to wear the color red on Thursday!
