MONTHLY UPDATE

With Spring in the air, all of us here at Tōtara Springs have been enjoying the slightly warmer weather. The colorful blooms bring new life and excitement as we enter the month of October.

In the month of September we had 2 very successful Sports Camps as well as school groups that came and experienced life at camp and the wonderful activities we have to offer, including the amazing food our catering team always so lovingly prepare.

In October, we are thrilled to host our first Kids Holiday camp since Covid hit and our first ever Kids Day Camp in partnership with Raleigh Street Christian Centre.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

In less than 3 months we will be having our TSCC Family Camps A & B. If you haven't registered for them yet, make sure to click the picture below and get your family signed up! We have limited space available in both Family Camp A & B.

COME LEAD AT TSCC

Christian camping is the perfect training ground for young leaders looking for experience in ministry. At Tōtara Springs we have opportunities right through the year on a continuous basis to come share the love of Jesus, grow your leadership skills, be someone's hero and role model, to be a blessing and to be blessed, as well as serve others around you.

"The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their own way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.

But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop."

Luke 8:14 &15

FROM CHRIS' DESK...

Dear Tōtara Springs Family

ENCOURAGEMENT

What an exciting day! Today we finished our 9th intermediate sports camp of the year. This is the first time since I’ve been at TSCC that we’ve been able to complete the sports camp season. I am so grateful for Andrew & Karen Lind and the amazing team of staff and volunteers who contributed to such a successful year. We even won the TSCC vs Teachers Volleyball game on Thursday night. It was a hoot! A huge thank you to Kim Beale who brought the story of Paul’s life from the Bible to life each week during the Quality living sessions. The schools really appreciated the values that were taught and reinforced out on the fields. We are looking forward to Youth Sports in December and Elite (Adult) Sports coming up in January!

PROJECT UPDATE

The sports office is coming along, check out the pictures below and see the progress.

We are still in the developing stages for the cabin project, but are meeting early in October to finalise many of the plans so we can get underway. It will be a huge undertaking, both financially and time wise. Please be praying for the funding that it will take as well as all the details that need to be figured out in the coming months.

REQUEST

Our first Annual Fundraising Banquet is happening on Saturday, 19th November. This event is for alumni and new friends of Tōtara Springs to come and hear stories from families and guests who have been impacted by the programme and ministry at TSCC and learn about upcoming projects. The evening will start at 6:30 with a delicious meal, followed by our guest speakers and video presentations. The evening will conclude with an opportunity to pledge and donate towards the various aspects of the ministry.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with the Springs. We have 14/22 tables hosted so far. Let us know if you’d like to host a table or want more information. We also have ⅓ of our pre-banquet sponsorship that has already come in, with several pledges as well. If you would like to sponsor a table or the event, contact me or check out this Banquet page on our website for more info.

Do you know any retired landscapers who are looking for an ongoing volunteer project with real meaning? Our beautiful grounds have been well taken care of over the years, but with our staff gardener no longer working with us we have felt the loss. This is a great opportunity for someone who has the skills and the time and is looking for some connection.

SPRINGS INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

The interns have been working hard on sports camps, helping to ref sports and scoring for games. We have had Luke join the interns. He has come all the way from Canada and has hit the ground running in the instructing team, learning activities and helping with Holiday Camp prep.

We are a couple of weeks away from kids camp, and the interns are helping prep for both the kids camp and the day camp. Kiana has worked hard on making castle decor (getting help from different people at times) while also taking on the role of Games coordinator, coming up with games to play at camp.

Emma is taking on the role of programmer at Day Camp. This has meant she has been helping to prep different activities and other aspects of Day Camp. Tavita has been helping to start thinking ahead to Family Camp and has been working on some decorations for the new year’s eve party.

OPPORTUNITY FOR VOLUNTEERS

Over the years we've had dedicated people who have done a wonderful job cultivating, watering, mowing, and weeding our many gardens at camp. I've always been impressed with how the grounds look. It is one of the things that help our guests feel welcome and connected to God. A few months ago, our dear Tania Gauntlett moved on (after 14 years). She has left her mark on this beautiful place and we want to keep up what she so diligently cultivated. We are looking for some volunteers to help tend the gardens. If you would enjoy spending time in God's creation, connecting with our team, and helping to welcome our guests with beautiful gardens then now is your chance. Contact our team right away to find out how you might be able to get involved.
