Principal Message
Dear Olympic View Community,
We are already one month into the new year and there are so many great things to celebrate! As we wrap up this first semester, it is a good time to check in on your scholars’ progress. Report cards were sent home on February 3rd and after you have a chance to look over them, please reach out to the OLV staff member if you need more support in understanding what information is being provided. We can unpack this together! All this to say that there is growth happening every day and we are excited to see even more academic and socio-emotional growth this next semester.
This month our PBIS focus is Kindness and Recess Expectations! We have a kindness challenge happening this month to celebrate this character trait. Scholars are engaging in learning about the importance of being kind and what an impact this can make on our community. This character trait aligns well with our focus area. Recess time is essential for scholars to engage with each other and build relationships. It is also a great time to learn about conflict management. We are focusing on safety at recess! We hope you will join us and connect with your scholar daily on what they are learning and how we can contribute to our school community through acts of kindness.
This month we will have a Family Connection Meeting on February 8th! This is an important meeting as we will share updates about our new school building and OLV’s transition to a K-8. Please look out for a separate invite with the zoom link; it is our usual Family Connection Link!
Thank you for your ongoing partnership this year. We appreciate all you do and hope to continue building strong partnerships to ensure that all scholars are learning at their highest level every day!
In Partnership,
Principal Choi

Please Complete the Family Income Survey
Dear Federal Way Public Schools Families,
You are receiving this message because your child(ren) previously qualified for free and reduced lunch. Our records show that your free and reduced status has lapsed, and you have not filled out the family income survey for the 2022-23 school year.
Though Federal Way Public Schools will continue to offer breakfast and lunch at no cost to all students through the Community Eligibility Program (CEP), your family may qualify for additional support if you continue to qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch status.
Complete the family income survey for additional benefits such as:
- Fee waivers
- Scholarships
- Reduced internet costs
- Low-cost technology
Family income surveys also ensure your child’s school qualifies for federal and state funding as determined by parent income levels. Only one survey is needed per household per school year.
Please click here to complete the survey.

News from Nurse Dorsett
COVID-19 infections remain active in our community. Both COVID-19 and influenza (flu) rates are currently moderate in King County. The CDC recommends a 3-step approach to minimize the spread:
- Get a flu shot and COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. It’s not too late!
- Stop the spread of germs by washing hands often; avoid touching eyes, nose, & mouth, clean frequently touched items; covering coughs & sneezes.
- Stay home if you are sick. Get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who tests positive. Contact the school right away if your scholar tests positive. Get FREE at-home COVID-19 test kits at www.sayyescovidhometest.org. See the image below for common symptoms and what to look for!
*Scholars with fever over 100 degrees must stay home until they have been fever-free for a full 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. Scholars who have been vomiting or having diarrhea must stay home for a full 24 hours after it has as stopped.
Thank you for your support in keeping scholars safe and healthy! Still wondering if your scholar is healthy enough to come to school? Please contact the school nurse or your healthcare provider.

Attendance Matters!
If your student is going to be absent or tardy please call Olympic View’s office at 253-945-3500 before 9:20 am. Calls made before or after office hours, please leave a message with student name, teacher name, and the reason for absence.
If you know your child(ren) will be missing school for an extended period of time, please stop by the office to fill out a Prearranged Absence Form. This will alert our attendance secretary and give your child's teacher the opportunity to make up a homework packet. These forms must be filled out and given to office staff 48 hours prior to your child's leave - this allows your child's teacher time to put packets together - packets cannot be made up same day.
STATEWIDE DEFINITION OF EXCUSED ABSENCES
Bereavement, illness, medical appointment, court, absence related to homelessness - these are all excused absences.
Have a doctor’s appointment? Please have your student bring a note from their appointment to get it excused. If your student is out for more than 3 days with an illness a doctor’s note is reccommended to excuse those absences.
TARDY/LATE TO SCHOOL UPDATE
Classes starts at 9:20 am. This means students are tardy (late to class) at 9:21 am. If you bring your child to school late please park in the lot and come in the main doors to sign your student in.
*Breakfast is available starting at 9:00 am. Do not drop your student off before 9:00 am as there is no supervision then.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW
If your child has 3 unexcused or 5 excused absences in one month the school is required to schedule an attendance conference.
After 7 unexcused absences in a month, and no later than 15 unexcused absences in a school year, the school district may file a truancy petition with the juvenile court.
