National-level speaker: Dr. William Deresiewicz
Each year the various school districts of the Pascack Valley, including Westwood Regional Schools, join forces to bring a national-level speaker to our community. This year, we are proud to welcome Dr. William Deresiewicz, author of "Excellent Sheep,” as he offers his unique and important perspective on what a quality education is, the purpose of schools, and how your child can be best prepared for a changing and unpredictable world.
The keynote address, followed by a book signing, will take place Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 7pm in the Pascack Valley High School auditorium. All members of the community --parents, students, educators -- are encouraged to attend this event.

National Wear Red Day, February 2, 2018 (American Heart Association)
As a Reminder...
Brookside School will be participating in an event called National Wear Red Day! This day is supported by the American Heart Association and will be celebrated on February 2, 2018.
On National Wear Red Day, we would like students to wear something red to show their support. National Wear Red Day is dedicated to increase awareness and education about heart disease and stroke, as well as, research to discover scientific knowledge about heart health. Although the focus is on women’s cardiovascular health, men can benefit from this as well.
In addition, students may show their support by contributing $1. We would like students to reach inside their piggy banks to gather some change. Please remember this is voluntary, but it goes to a good cause. Parents, please do not give your children money; this is something we want your child or children to do on their own.
Please place the change or dollar bill into an envelope and have your child bring the dollar to the school nurse between January 16, 2018 - February 2, 2018. Your child will receive a bracelet and they will write their name on a sign showing their contribution to the American Heart Association.
The goal is to reach $500 between student and staff support. We will also be taking a picture of all students and staff in the shape of a heart on February 2nd. The school is looking forward to this event!
Thank you for your support,
Ms. Parke, RN, BSN, CSN
