Greetings Woodcrest families,
I am sure this finds you toggling between what to think and feel about the snow, cold temperatures, the full moon this Saturday and the coming elections. Through all of these, one thing seems to remain steady...excitement about learning at Woodcrest.
This morning our staff began outlining their personalized professional learning plans to better home in on the specific needs of their students. Our teachers have identified how each of your children learn and what they may need to extend and deepen their learning experience.
Beyond Woodcrest, there is a lot happening in Spring Lake Park Schools. You may have seen a message last Friday about students in grades 7-12 transitioning to distance learning. At this time, there are no changes at our school and no changes for students in grades K-6 attending in the Modified Campus (hybrid) model. We would consider a transition for K-6 if we were to near the threshold provided by public health officials of 50 cases per 10,000. Last week, Anoka County reported 33.16 cases per 10,000.
As a district, we are meeting often with county and state officials to understand and respond to the public health situation in our area as we need to. We very much want to keep our schools open, and we are hopeful we can, as a community, address the community spread of the virus in our area.
As you are aware, next Tuesday, November 3 is Election Day and will be a “learning at home day” for our entire school as our building is used as an election polling place. If your child is normally in the school building on Tuesdays, please plan for your child to learn from home next Tuesday. If you have questions, please reach out to us through the main office phone number, 763-600-5800.
This week we have been in the throes of Spirit Week. On Friday we will be celebrating Panther Spirit Day. Please encourage your child to wear their SLP gear or school colors of red and blue. In fact, you should consider it as well. I love seeing families “Panthered Out!” Share your Panther pride photos with communications@district16.org or using #SLPPantherProud.
In addition to Panther Spirit Day, Woodcrest is also holding a Dance-a-thon across all classrooms, Extended Flexible Learning and Modified Campus. We look forward to connecting everyone at home and at school to dance TOGETHER!
Stay warm and safe over the next few days . . . we have a lot to look forward to in the next week, including warmer weather.
Have a nice day,
John Franke
Interim Principal
