Application for Educational Benefits
All families should submit the Application for Educational Benefits annually, regardless of whether you think you qualify. This helps us to secure Title 1 funding. The application determines benefits for students and families such as school meals, free bus cards, and discounted internet service.
Visit https://linqconnect.com or click the image below to complete the application.
Reminders from the Health Office 🩺
It's that time of the year for colds, influenza, stomach illnesses, strep throat, and yes- Covid! We are experiencing an increase of illnesses in our school community. Please help Kenwood students and staff stay as healthy as we can.
Common Ways to Limit the Spread of Germs
- Stay home from school and activities if you are sick.
- Students should not come to school until 24 hours after the last bout of vomiting, diarrhea, fever 100 degrees or higher (without fever reducing medications), or illness symptoms. If your student has been diagnosed with strep throat, they will not be able to return to school until 12 hours after starting an antibiotic and are fever free/well to participate in school.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Clean your hands often. Hand washing for 20 seconds several times a day helps control the spread of germs and protects you from germs.
- If you have illness symptoms, consider taking a Covid test.
- Call the attendance line (612-668-2766) if your student has a reported case of strep throat, Covid, influenza, or influenza-like symptoms (fever with cough or sore throat).
We hope this information helps our students, staff, and families have a healthy fall! If you have questions or to report an absence, please call the health office at 612-668-2766. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our school healthy.

Meet Our Kenwood Staff 👋
Tali Strand (2nd Grade Teacher)
I am so excited to be working at Kenwood this year! I have been teaching for eight years in Wisconsin, California, and Colorado. I am originally from Minneapolis and just moved back home this summer.
I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Elementary Education and ESL and earned my master's at University of Colorado-Boulder in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity.
When I am not at school, I love reading, running (I am currently training for the Minneapolis Marathon), walking around the lakes, and spending time with friends and family.
It has been such a joy starting the school year and meeting such incredible children and families!
Jelisa Burns (School LPN)
Hello Everyone. I am Nurse Jelisa down in the health office. I've been a Nurse now for 4 years. I've been a School LPN for a year, before then I was a GI Endoscopy Nurse in the hospital. I've seen interesting things that's been swallowed, like a toothbrush. Here's a little about me that you don't know: I am from Chicago, Illinois. I am a Pastor's Kid who loves to sing and dance. I am also a local Roller Skater, who teaches the basics skills of skating.
Also, I will be starting a Black Affinity group here a Kenwood for 4th and 5th graders. This group will be a safe space for people of color to openly talk about feelings and pressures while also exploring ways to empower & advocate for themselves. Discussions will cover topics such as self-esteem, self-awareness, healthy relationships and communication. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I thank all of you for such warm welcomes.
