Unified Student-Athletes to Serve as Honorary Football Captains
Unified Track and Field student-athlete Olivia Daniels served as the honorary captain at the Friday, Sept. 20 football game between the CHS Panthers and Quakertown Community High School Panthers.
As the first honorary captain for this new tradition, Daniels entered the field alongside CHS Panthers, was introduced to the fans, facilitated the coin toss and enjoyed the game in her commemorative t-shirt from a special viewing area. Each honorary captain will also work with peers in general education classes to be their "buddies" for the event.
Daniels received the opportunity as the result of a partnership between the CHS football team and Athletes Helping Athletes (AHA), a Richboro, Pa.,-based nonprofit with the mission of connecting local special needs student-athletes with mainstream student-athletes in a spirit of friendship for their mutual benefit and inspiration. CHS Environmental Club Saves a Tree
At its first meeting of the school year, the CHS Environmental Club worked together to rescue the Japanese Maple in front of school. The students removed and safely disposed of 183 bagworms from the withering tree. Bagworms are actually caterpillar cocoons containing females who can lay up to 300 eggs. Come spring, those eggs would have hatched into moths which would have killed the tree by feeding on its leaves. Keep a lookout to see the rejuvenation of the tree as the year goes on!
CHS Principal Dr. Renato Lajara was quoted in the Saturday, Sept. 21 Philadelphia Inquirer about students participating in the previous day's Climate Strike. Read more>
CHS students Atara and Eden Saunders and Camille Edelson were interviewed about their participation in the Friday, Sept. 20 climate strike on KYW Newsradio. Read and listen more>
