OneGP Virtual Weekly Update
October 23, 2020
Message from Dr. Delgado
Good afternoon,
Next week will be an exciting one for our Elementary and Middle School students as we lead up to Halloween. Please see below for a fun Spirit week that our Y5-8th grade students will be participating in. I am looking forward to jumping into Zoom rooms and seeing the kids participate in the activities.
Our High School teachers will be holding conferences next week. A sign up link was sent earlier today to all High School families. If you did not receive it, it is also linked below in our High School Updates section.
Earlier this week you received an email from Rebecca Fannon that contained potential changes for OneGP Virtual schedules based on GP Traditional's return to Face 2 Face instruction. That return has now been put on pause due to new information from the Health Department, so for the time being any changes to the OneGP Virtual schedule are also on pause. If anything changes, I will let you know right away.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dr. Delgado

High School Updates
Important Dates:
Nov. 3 - No School For Students (Election Day)
High School Conference Dates:
Wednesday October 28th from 5-8pm
Thursday October 29th from 5-8pm
We will be using a new program called Parent Teacher Conference Wizard to schedule High School Conferences. Due to the large number of students per teacher, conferences will be limited to 5 minutes.
Click here to sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences
Teacher Zoom links and passcodes are also available here
Within the PTC Conference Wizard, the “Room” Contains the link for the Zoom Session for each teacher, and the “Description” contains the password to the zoom session. Teacher Conference room links will also be provided in a google form the night before conferences.
- Please note that staff that work between multiple buildings may only be available during certain days/times.
- We encourage you to log into your student’s Schoology Gradebook prior to the session to make the most of the 5 minute conferences. While we are available for every parent that would like to talk to each teacher, we encourage you to choose the sessions of those teachers you most need to visit.
PSAT/NMSQT Update:
GPPSS has been carefully noting the recent rise in COVID cases in Wayne County. Based on current trends--and in an effort to promote safety for students, staff and the Grosse Pointe Public Schools community--the district has decided to move the 11th grade PSAT/NMSQT assessment (previously scheduled for October 29, 2020) to January 26th, 2021.
The district has confirmed with the Wayne County Regional Education Assessment Agency (Wayne RESA) and the College Board that the January 26, 2021 PSAT/NMSQT assessment will provide 11th graders the opportunity to qualify for the National Merit Scholars Program.
Due to this change, next week we will run our normal M-F class schedule, including Wednesday learning labs.
Monday/10-26 - Regular Schedule
Tuesday/10-27- Regular Schedule
Wednesday/10-28 - Learning Labs
Thursday/10-29 - Regular Schedule
Friday/10-30 - Regular Schedule
We understand that these are uncertain times, and the need to quickly reevaluate and pivot causes some level of anxiety. We will continue to keep you informed--as early as possible--of changes as they take place. In the weeks leading up to January 26th, your building’s testing coordinator will send details regarding test procedures, building access, and any changes to the school schedule that may occur.

OneGP Virtual MS Weekly Schedule
OneGP Virtual HS Weekly Schedule
***Note - As GP Traditional begins to work on their return to school schedules, please know that the OneGP Virtual schdules will need to shift as well due to the fact that we share a large number of teachers between the 2 programs.***
Learning Labs
Learning Labs continued this week for both Middle School and High School. Just like in person instruction involves multiple components such as direct instruction, independent practice, and small group targeted work, virtual learning is also comprised of all of those components. Learning Labs are the small group targeted practice that your child would receive if we were in in person learning. I would STRONGLY encourage middle school and high school students to attend their learning labs to take advantage of this time with their instructors or other instructors in the same content areas.
The following are examples of things that may occur during Learning Labs:
Reteaching - when students have questions
Remediation - targeted skill development
Guided practice - more opportunities to refine specific skills
Extension/enrichment - when students need additional challenge
Formative assessment and feedback
Intentional small group breakouts - interacting with content/teacher/other students
Focused mini lessons on an explicit objective - skill focused
Since OneGP Virtual students come from across the district, they should follow the instructions of their OneGP Virtual teacher with regard to which learning lab to attend. Their OneGP Virtual teacher will provide the link to the Learning Lab that the students in their classes should attend.
